The higher the number, the thicker and heavier the blade. A #9 blade, for instance is much thicker (and stronger) than a #4 blade. Thick, heavy blades typically cut faster and last longer than fine, precision blades cutting the same material. The drawback is that they cannot accomplish very tight curves well, and it is impossible to make a 180° turn without leaving a massive hole where you did it. A #3 or #4 can accomplish this easily, but if you try to cut a piece of 3/4" hardwood, they will last about 10 seconds before breaking! I hope this helps a bit. I've been scrolling for about 20 years off and on, and it's much easier to demonstrate this than to explain it without visual aids. **Q: they fit craftsman?** A: Yes. My son has a craftsman and these are what he uses. **Q: will these work on an Delta 15" model 40 150 scroll saw?** A: I have not use it on DELTA but you can see the size of existing blade, if the size of existing blade is 5 inch then you can buy this and it should work on delta then. Apart from that, Delta should support Pin end blades.
