Q: Wondering if the lid is hard to pick up. From the picture, I don't see a handle to get the lid off the pit, just a small square?

The lid has a flush handle right in the middle of the lid. You push gently on one edge and the other edge raises as your handle. It works quite well and the lid is very light. It stores inside the door where you access your propane tank.

Q: Has anyone had a problem with the gas tank seeming to be empty (after working fine) but there is still propane in the tank?

2nd year of operation and I've never had a problem.

Q: What size is the blue glass stone?

They are about the size of a small rock, about 3/4" in diameter.
