misinformed caricature of dairy farming
As an English graduate I appreciate that the writing is of better quality than many 'funny' books, but as someone who has been married to a dairy farmer for over 30 years I take exception to the cartoon-ish rendition of modern dairy farming. Milk prices have never even reached 62p/litre, let alone dropped by that price, as stated in the book. The reality is a top price of 27p-29p/litre. It did drop a few years ago to 12p-15p/litre. Those were truly awful milk prices and to distort the figures is to fool the general public into believing that dairy farmers just whine about nothing. The protagonist seems to think of her herd as a small-time farmer of 70 years ago did, with cows treated like pets, but if she really does have 150 cows in the herd there are simply not enough hours in the day to manage each cow like that. And if there are 150 cows in the herd, why are there only two or three calves around? And why are only a few cows 'pregnant'? Roughly three quarters of the herd should be 'pregnant' at any one time. No wonder the farm is heading for disaster financially. All this is just in the first half of the book. I was so disgusted with the false picture it is portraying that I didn't finish it. And I didn't care for the level of smuttiness either.

MOOOving, warm and very funny
What a treat this book was. The writing is so tight, I don't there's a single word wasted. It's a lovely evocation of British life and love. There's some beautiful descriptions of the farm and you can feel all the love that has gone into the characters. There was an especially brilliant bit of plotting where all the seeds of the story come together and you cheer out loud for the character involved. You can see why it was the winner of the Comedy Women in Print Prize. Bravo.Want to feel good, read this!

Buy it now, you're missing out.
What an awesome book. I'd seen some information on the Author on TV and thought I'd give it a try. Well worth the purchase and one of the best things about 2020. I'm not going into details as I'll accidentally give something away, so as the title says just buy it, its well worth it.

Nice concept but a little tame
I liked the concept and same sex couple love story but ultimately it was all very obvious, I could have written the ending after the first chapter and it was a tedious slog to get there. I wanted to enjoy this a lot more than I actually did.

A great story with believable characters, told with a sensitive balance of humour and pathos.
I enjoyed Cow Girl from the first chapter and was sad to leave the characters at the end. The more the characters developed the more I cared about them, and that includes the cows. The story is told with a great balance of humour and pathos. I am already looking forward to the next offering from Kirsty Eyre.
