Looks nice at first, but after a month or so the stones turn yellow and harden together into a tough top layer rather than just sitting on top.Also my plants became infested with flies that were nesting in between the stones. Never had this problem before using the stones. I took the stones and soil away and repotted the plants, no more flies.

I bought these to combat a fungus gnat infestation after hearing that it could help.They have literally done nothing. I even bolstered their protection with sand, but the gnats take no notice and just use the stones to hide and chill out in.I have also tried nematodes and had no success. I am now using diatemaceous earth - results pending but in theory this stuff is guaranteed to work.If you are buying these for decorative purposes, you might be disappointed when it turns yellow.
