Delightful and fun musical that remains one of the best!!
One of the most iconic musicals, Singin' in the Rain remains a fun and delightful film over 70 years after its release. With co-direction from Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen and a script by Betty Comden and Aloph Green, Singin' in the Rain is brought to life in full technicolor wonder. In 1927, silent films are still captivating audiences and Donald "Don" Lockwood is a popular actor who, along with many stars, are facing the coming of talking pictures. While his voice works well for sound, Don is not the talented actor he thought and faces the end of his career until the idea of creating his latest film, The Dueling Cavalier, into a musical using his vaudeville background to excel. With help from new girlfriend, Kathy, and best friend, Cosmo, all three work to make the production a success and hope their stardom continues.Singin' in the Rain is a delightful and fun musical that continues to captivate and inspire audiences. With lyrics by Arthur Freed and music by Nacio Herb Brown, the film has iconic and memorable songs such as "Good Morning" and "Sinigin' in the Rain" that were previously seen in other musicals. The dance numbers, choreographed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, are themselves iconic. "Good Morning" which featured an in sync dance number of Kelly with Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor has them going up and down stairs and over a couch, which according to Reynolds, was redone so many times her feet bleed. The iconic "Singin in the Rain" dance number features Gene Kelly singing and dancing in the pouring rain on an empty street with his umbrella. The scene has become not only an icon but an example of dedication and commitment as Kelly had a 103 degree fever when filming.Singin' in the Rain is a delightfully fun musical with a good story, great characters, some comedy, and an overall fun watch! Perfect to add to your physical media library in picture perfect blu-ray!

Musical masterpiece
Hard to understand how the Academy Awards passed on this movie, especially after heralding "An American in Paris" the year before.Highly entertaining.Downside: After successfully blending the musical numbers into the plot through much of the movie, there are a couple of song and dance (mostly dance) numbers in the second half of "Singing in the Rain" that saved a definite "tacked on" feel. They simply don't belong to the plot in any way. They have the feel of older, dated musicals, where the formula was "a few minutes of light romance, then a dance number totally unrelated to anything, repeat this sequence for ~90 minutes."

Dignity. Always, dignity.
When this classic musical was released, it lived in the shadow of Gene Kelly's magnum opus "American in Paris". That 1951 film won several Oscars and gave audiences a taste of Kelly's genius. It featured the stunning dance fantasy with Kelly and Leslie Caron. But as history would show it would be the "lesser" film that became the real star over the decades. Singin' in the Rain is now rightly regarded as one of the great movie musicals of all time. I would think at this point that a vast majority of humans on the planet can hum a few bars of the iconic rain-soaked song sequence. And I'd put up the smoldering dance fantasy here with Cyd Charisse and Kelly up against anything in American cinema. Yet, there's so much more to enjoy. Donald O'Conner's "Make Em Laugh" number still stuns today in its athleticism, artistry and bruise inducing risks. Kelly was known to push his co-stars to the edge and the results are consistently beyond the normal mainstream movie expectations of that time. The "Moses Supposes" sequence features tap that is equal to Gregory Hines, the Nicholas Bros. and Fred Astair. Jean Hagen's comedic turn as Lina Lamont almost steals the show several times. That voice! Then, there's the debut performance of a young teenage Debbie Reynolds who not only holds her own with all these heavyweights but adds another layer of dancing and singing excellence. If you are not grinning from ear to ear with joy from the beginning to ending frames you might need repeat watching's! Add in a wonderful Dolby Vision HDR remaster, clear as a bell surround sound and this is a true must have in the collection.

Gene Kelly was the man!
I always loved this movie since a kid, my grandmother used to live Kelly movies and I kinda grew up to them .. Gene Kelly was the best dancer who's ever lived. Not Fred Astair..

Watch the movie Babylon also
This is such a charming story! Debbie Reynolds is adorable and the dance scenes are some of the best in the history of movies. Gene Kelly is amazing. To get a different perspective on the plot, you should also watch the movie Babylon with the beautiful Margot Robby. The characters are much more tragic in Babylon, and the plot is also "derivative" in nature. That is, the plot embellishes the truth, but the two movies together give you a sense of what the "silent era" in movies was like for the performers.

Uitmuntende 4k disc
