Is it normal for the Bowie Stylophone to sometimes sound scratchy, crackly or distorted?

Yes – perfectly normal. To protect your Stylophone from corrosion and other damage during shipment, a protective coating was applied to the keyboard and stylus tip which may cause a "crackling" sound when the Stylophone is played. This is easily removed by rubbing with a soft cloth or contact cleaner. Thanks! Dubreq

It does but really tiny print and only a few tunes.

Sounds fabulous in vibrato when mixed , capable of producing rich rewarding sounds.

Never had the " absolute original" 1967 - 8 ? stylophone but this sounds awesome when played through a base orientated speaker , moreover when mixed with a synth /drone its very easy to make it sound like a church Organ .
