Coming from an avid reader (2-3 books per month) who is HYPER critical about books, this was a great read. It was evident the author put in some serious work from a research standpoint. I'm typically skeptical when it comes to books predicated on interviews, however, the author transitions nicely between original thought and the experiences from the chefs he engaged. There is very good continuity in the book, which sometimes can fall short with interview based books. I found that this book has lessons applicable in various industries (and lifestyles), but it's excellent for anyone striving for success in the culinary industry. I thoroughly enjoyed. Bravo to the author :)

he is a great person. This author supports his fan base
Chris Hill is not any run of the mill Chef, he is a great person. This author supports his fan base. This book is a must read, and is destined to be a New York Times best seller. He is motivational, and truly understands what it takes to succeed as a Chef. He is brutally honest, and direct in his writing. He writes with honesty. This book is a great read for anyone, in any professional filed. I found it a better read than Bourdains Kitchen Confidential. You want to know the way this buissness really is, and what it takes to succeed? Do yourself a favor and read this.

Loved it! Wish it was in Audio too!
Making the Cut offers a rare look into some great minds, giving physical form to insights you might know deep in your gut, but have questioned for so long now. I'd recommend reading this book to most anyone, both in and out of the kitchen, who needs to get some perspective about their purpose and personal goals. Especially those people who have audacious goals in life and would like to impact the world.Wish there was an audible version, as I'd play it in my car to and from work each day to keep my mind in check. Excited to see what else this author generates for my personal mental consumption :-)

The lessons are applicable to life in general
If you are looking for something that will teach you more about the restaurant book, this is not it. This book is more about self-help than restaurant business. I learned a thing or two from this book and I will try to apply them in my own life

From the heart
I met Chris online when he was first starting to build a following for his culinary passion. Casually getting to know the man behind the message; I found his passion for humanity and humility for a more compassionate life and world... were the key ingredients to his success... That we all know "isn't what people think." He gives a clear picture of the reality the world still faces and the depths of the service and pain we of the culinary world often face. Often a reflection of the lost souls trying to do more than make it through this world alive... But bring a newer, gentler, more compassionate way of living. Evolving how we serve each other. He doesn't shy away from hardships or perspectives of those who have faced the harsh realities of this world. Yet elegantly keeps the focus on the way forward. His respect and desire for all paths are remarkable. The length to which he has gone to explore so many different approaches and give us a look into the best of all worlds is really... Flat out... Inspiring. If you are a young cook. You want to read this. If you are a human being interested in humility... You want to read this. If you can't read... You want to learn. Chris makes it easy. Don't be scared of anything.

I received your book and after much anticipation I read the book in one day. It was well written and straight to the point. Every once in a while I think we all need to take a step back from ourselves as professionals and evaluate where we are at and what direction we are heading. This read did it for me when I wasn't looking. Thank you so much for writing it Chris and to all of the folks interviewed in it. I will certainly read it again whenever I need a pick me up as well as recommend it to my colleagues for themselves and their teams.
