Don't Believe Everything You Read on the Internet
I'm not really sure how that other guy managed to brutalize his bacon so terribly. I can only imagine that he's also the kind of person that puts his toast in the toaster and turns it up to 11 then comes back disappointed when his toast is burned beyond recognition. Not only does it appear that this person can't correctly operate a toaster - they also don't know how to purchase high quality bacon from the grocery store.Other inadequate reviews aside, this unit is functional and adequate. It works as advertised but it does have a couple quirks. It's not perfect but I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who hates cooking bacon like I do either because grease gets everywhere, they burn themselves, the bacon cooks unevenly, they don't want to wait 30 minutes for it to cook in the oven, or all of the above. The good:* Cleanup is easier than I thought it would be. Grease didn't fly everywhere in the kitchen.* The unit disassembles easily. The unit folds apart in seconds and you can figure out how it works in a matter of minutes.* A lot of grease is naturally strained from the bacon due to hanging vertically. This is healthier overall. The bad:* A lot of grease is naturally strained from the bacon due to hanging vertically. This affects the taste of the bacon slightly.* It's really a lot more suited to cooking 4 pieces of bacon than 6.* The control dial is a little flimsy. What is not immediately obvious:* There is a heating element very similar to a toaster in the middle. This is how it operates.* It cooks both sides of the bacon but naturally the bacon comes out the best when you do two smaller cooking sessions and flip the bacon in-between each session to cook them totally evenly.* This unit is not a set-it-and-forget-it type unit like the top reviewer seems to think it is but rather much more like a toaster where supervision is recommended* The bacon comes out a bit drier than you'd expect if you normally pan cook it in its own fat like I used to do.All in all I cooked 8 pieces of bacon 4 at a time quite easily. I only cook begrudgingly from time to time so my significant other doesn't think I'm completely useless as a human being. Most of the time she is the one doing the cooking but even a software engineer such as myself can manage bacon and eggs. And with this bacon cooker it's even easier.I would recommend starting off by putting your bacon in the cooker absolutely first. The unit takes a while to heat up but only a couple minutes. You'll have bacon smell permeating your domicile in under 5 minutes. After that the bacon will cook over the next 10 to 15 minutes. And the rest is making sure the bacon isn't burned to shit. All that requires is not being an idiot and opening the vertical oven-like doors every couple of minutes to make sure they're cooking correctly. So after throwing in the bacon you can pull out your eggs, scramble the, grate some cheese, and then flip the bacon. After flipping the bacon you can throw your eggs in and cook them and voila breakfast in 15 minutes. Easy.

Cool idea not very practical
I use thin cut uncured turkey bacon. Very minimal grease. I am able to fit 5 pieces which take about 4-5minutes to cook. The heat shield constantly falls down when opening so be prepared to burn your fingers a handful of times. Would be a better product if the size were larger.

Not for me
I have a family of 5 so we are always looking for efficient ways to cook lots of food. My husband bought this for me for Christmas and we thought it would be great. I have been cooking a full family breakfast every Sunday morning (sometimes more often) for 15 years... We love bacon and always cook large amounts on my skillet. My husband, Mom, and I have all tried my bacon cooker in different ways and with different types of bacon. Here is what we found with ours - I could only cook about 4-5 pieces of bacon at a time. I had to flip the bacon every time to cook somewhat evenly. Most of the time, the first few batches of bacon stick to the inner unit until some grease has been on it. The middle of the bacon (on top) always cooked faster than the ends. A full pack of bacon will fill up the grease trap and most often leak all over the counter from the movement of opening and closing the doors. I can cook a full pack of bacon 4 times faster on my skillet.A couple things I did like was how the grease dripped off the bacon, so it wasn’t being cooked in grease, and us eating slightly better. I also liked not having grease splatter everywhere. At the end of the day, I’ll just keep cooking our bacon on my skillet. If you like really crispy bacon or somewhat raw bacon, then this might be a good fit for you.

Good for single use. Makes tasty bacon!
First time use, it worked great! Only fits 4 pieces of thick cut bacon, maybe more if you prefer thinner bacon. You have to "trial and error" with the settings to get it so it doesn't overcook or undercook, but when you get it right, the bacon is great. You can taste the difference without all of the bacon grease like with regular cooking. It seems to take awhile to cook though, so the Bacon "Express" is a bit of a misnomer. Keep in mind I'm cooking thick cut bacon, so your experience may vary. Now, the biggest issue that I have with this machine is that, after the first use, if you try to cook a second batch of bacon, it doesn't cook as well. It's like when you use a toaster and then try to use it immediately after taking out the first pieces of toast. The second set of toast pops back up quickly without being adequately toasted. I would recommend this for a single person, not so much for families.

High expectations?
It could definitely use some improvement as far as the cooking evenness goes. The bottom/tips of the bacon is usually burnt by the time the whole thing is edible. I desperately need a commercial bacon cooker and bought it more so of curiosity than anything since I can't use this in my restaurant. It really would be a great alternative to microwaving bacon, especially at the volume we make bacon. The grease KILLS my expensive commercial microwaves which I need to replace every two years or so.

Don't follow the directions
Be prepared to not use the suggested cooking setting. For thin sliced bacon, I have to set the dial to almost halfway into the thick slice setting. And, even then, it will often not cook the bacon all the way and I have to flip it over.I also have to drape a towel over the unit because it never closes all the way. If I don't the middle of the bacon will be mostly uncooked. The worst part is that the non-slick coating on the center piece started coming off in the firat week. The coating on the door panels has also mostly come off. I follow the cleaning directions but to no avail.Overall, it works okay, as long as you're fine with extra cooking time. It is definitely better than getting grease burns.

This cooks bacon for single people with limited cooking skills. If you like bacon, buy this.
So, like most people, I read the reviews and was really concerned about the negative ones. Seems like people either really liked this product or just hated it. I think you should give it a go as it's a really good product for the sub $40 price. It's sturdy and seems well made. The magnets that hold the splatter panels on the doors work well and aren't weak. Taking it apart and putting back together is very easy and cleaning takes minutes with none of that grease smell all over your house and clothes. The trap in the machine collects well and it's easy to drain. The non-stick cooking surface is also easily removed and cleaned. To the cooking portion... I would recommend trying out the time to cook (the dial is really a timer. When you choose 5, for example, the machine will cook your bacon for 5 minutes. 7 equals 7 minutes etc.). The first pieces were totally ruined because I was trying different things to get my "perfect" bacon but I have dogs so they were happy. A couple of things I figured out if you don't like burnt or dry bacon. Don't flip the bacon. I believe this is because it doesn't hold flat to the cooking surface like it does when you initially put it on and it kind of air dries (out) and then gets black around the edges. Just put it on longer (Just over 6 minutes is perfect for me). It really only fits 4 pieces of bacon at a time, not 6. Not sure what kind of bad bacon they tested it with but there's no way 6 pieces will fit there.Anyway, It should also be pointed out that because of the limited amount of bacon this cooks at a time, this is probably not something for families to buy. Perfect for a semi-lazy guy or gal who doesn't like the huge mess of cooking bacon but really wants to have bacon not cooked in a microwave. I am that kind of semi- lazy guy and so I made sure of testing to make sure it would be used regularly by being honest with myself over the cleanup. Is it easy enough to get the appliance out, prepare and cook bacon and then clean up without moaning about it? Yep. Got it yesterday, have already used it and cleaned it and am planning on making myself more bacon after finishing this review. MMMMM.... bacon....

Pretty good
You have to get bacon that's not too thick or thin. Too thick and only one side cooks. Too thin and it sticks to the surface and is hard to get off. The great thing is the turn around time, (the time it takes to make another batch of bacon). Just lift the bacon off, and put new bacon on. The drip tray is large enough for several loads. Cleaning is easy, it breaks down to 4 parts, the body the 2 sides and the cooking surface.

Bacon whenever you want!
It took several batches of bacon to zero in on the best setting for the bacon we buy. Because bacon seems to thin at one end, I cut the bacon in half, making a more even cook. The "Non-stick" centre piece does tend to stick a bit (could have been a thicker coating) but I started preparing it with a light spray of cooking oil prior to use. This seems to help.I've cooked 4 packages of bacon so far & the only "failure" is that one of the tiny screws that hold the side plates in place seems to have pulled out of the plastic due to the magnet staying on the plate... stripping the hole.I'm not sure what to do about it yet. Wonder if the company has any solution???Overall, this is a great appliance & I use it to cook 5-6 strips every few days. I always keep a pkg. of bacon in my fridge now so I can have bscon whenever we want!

Works good.
I love this cooker. I use it a lot. Sure, I had to put news screws in the handles because the ones it came with fell out. Now they hold well.

Fonctionne seulement avec des tranches épaisses.
Belle invention, pour se faire un club sandwich exemple. Mais, par contre ça prend des tranches très épaisse pour que ça fonctionne bien.
