I bought this about 3 years ago and this is my first time having to rebuy more sponge to replace the old ones. Didn't expect it to last that long. Easy to rinse out in tank water. Much better for your tank than carbon filters. I would recommend using filter floss with this though because it doesn't filter out all the tiniest particles that can make your tank cloudy. Definitely good for holding good bacteria though.

Like others have said it's vacuum sealed and thin/dense when you open the bag. I just run it under warm water and wring it out a few times. It expands to the 1 inch thickness advertised in just a couple minutes.

Work fine once allowed to expand and cut to size. Comes in poorly cut sheets, cut rough edges can be easily trimmed.

These you make a decent foam to pack a hang on back filter but they are not a pourace or open cell as what I had hoped. Guess I will stick to A-CoOp for this priduct.

I'm not really upset about the product but not really what I expected. The sponge came vacuum sealed, and when I opened the package the sponge broke into multiple pieces. I can still use it even if they are smaller pieces.

I gave these 3 stars only because they did not work for what we were trying to do. There was nothing wrong with the product, it was great.

these were advertised to be 8x4x1 inchs. they 8x4 is correct but they are lucky to be a quarter inch thick. thats 1/4 the thickness as advertised. beware buyers

I can't say how well this works as a aquarium filter because I used it to replace the air filters on my snowmobile, but after I placed them in the dryer for a while and let them sit overnight they're the correct size.

The cell size is about the perfect tradeoff between bacterial growth and flow. I'm using a Sunsun canister filter with 3 layers, first is floss and this sponge, second is this and bioballs, third is ceramic rings. Before putting this in it was just hte floss, then balls, then rings. Getting the floss down to a small layer for screening and replacing half the bio balls with this sponge about doubled my flow and feels like the right tradeoff to make since the floos choked the filter so much the water is actually cleaner with a lot less of it.Also using it in a small internal filter for a 3g cube with snails. Keeps the snails out of the impeller and with a bit of floss again, keeps the water fresh.Would recommend for whatever, it's a good size for canisters, can be cut for other stuff and, good sized cells
