100% Authentic Fermented Salted Shrimp Paste
Please don't try to eat this directly from the container by the spoonful. No refrigeration is necessary. Hundreds of years from now, archeologists may find well-preserved containers of this that have the same flavor and condition as the day it was made! :-DBut seriously, if you need and know how to use fermented salted shrimp paste, this is the truly authentic stuff. Unlike Big Company products that are jarred and cooked and "recommended" by Amazon--products that are usually more expensive, much inferior, and poorly authentic--this comes in a plastic container, the lid of which has a shrink-wrapped plastic safety seal. Once you break the seal and remove the lid, you'll find that the contents are underneath a round plastic cover about the thickness of stationary paper. The attached photo shows a container where I have broken the internal cover and used a bit of the product from the corner of the container. The aroma and flavor is pungent, 100% authentic, and packs a unique and delectable punch. A little goes a long way. I use it in appropriately small amounts in Asian soups, other Asian dishes, and Korean kimchi. I've lived in Asia. I'm a cook. This is the authentic product. Get it if that's what you're after.

Not for the feint of heart!
Gringos beware! It does add an authentic flavor but the smell is brutal!

Tastes great
I’m used to using pre-packaged chopped up dried shrimp which is far more pungent than this shrimp paste. So when opened the tub I was pleasantly surprised that this shrimp pasted wasn’t that smelly. I made fried rice and added shrimp paste, soy sauce and sweet soy sauce (I forgot the name), and it tasted great. One issue was the time it took for the product to arrive. I ordered the shrimp paste on April 6, 2020. I was given an arrival date of May 15. In the mean time I received an email from the seller saying it will take time to arrive. Well it took one month extra!! I do no blame the seller, the pandemic is wreaking havoc on everything. If you order the shrimp paste and it’s coming from overseas, be patient.

Don’t buy from this seller
I’ve bought & used shrimp paste before, granted i’m not an expert, and it’s been a healthy red color with a normal fishy smell, kind of like anchovies and fish food. It smells good thought. What came in the mail was a gross BROWN color, the smell was not good. I’m someone who likes fermented dishes so i don’t think this is me being a weirdo “white” person lol

authentic
This is absolutely perfect for all your thai needs (and for any needs that require shrimp paste, many cuisines use shrimp paste and this one is basic enough that you could add some things to it to turn it into other cuisines shrimp paste, like bagoong for example). This is the only one I have tried so maybe I don't know quite as well as a native thai - but the stench is INSANE. DO NOT smell this! Just use it as quickly as possible as it is necessary for many thai dishes. Without, they arne't quite the same. Still taste good but they lack that authentic flavor. It mixed in beautifully with the thai curry paste that I made and is essential for any home made thai curry paste. Price wasn't too shabby either.

Perfect for Kimchi
Worked great! It’s strong (obviously!), but it does its job well. Don’t be deterred by reviews that say not to use it for kimchi. It works perfectly well if you can’t get salted fermented shrimp.
