An unsung hero
Bought this reel in 6000 size, didn't like it much for UK inshore pollack etc - silly manual bail arm. Wished I'd bought a smaller model with auto trip. So it sat in the cupboard unloved. However as I packed my case for a trip to Norway I tried the Penn reel I'd planned to take for lure fishing and its foot was too big for my travel rod! So the BG MQ got a late invite. And was fab for this heavier fishing catching coalfish to 13.5lb and a 32lb halibut no sweat. Back to Norway next year, better fishing to test it more -wow, what a reel! Bringing up 19lb cod, big haddock, coalies etc three at a time on occasion - and no fewer than nine halibut up to 73lb...on spinning gear. The BG MQ has certainly proved itself in a far more testing environment than most UK fishing and as far as I'm concerned, now I've found what the reel was made for I really cannot fault it as its winding power is off the scale compared to the average reel in this price bracket.
