Many similar products are more "artsy" and perhaps intentionally naive, with probably a handful of highly cartoonized animals. The kids (6, 8 yr old) would get bored really quickly, and some considered those an insult to their IQ. This one is the opposite - featuring a very detailed, realistic, and extremely rich collection. There's even an evolutionary tree there. It was an instant hit, and the kiddos even started making drawings of animals after it. You can spend days, weeks, or if stories are paired in the activity, months playing with the kids based on it.One small incident was how sharp the edges of the map were... so the excitement ended up in a quite deep and bloody paper cut. Something to watch out for.

My daughter is 8 and loves animal facts. I've been wanting to get a world map for her room, so this map worked quite well. This was a gift for her, and as soon as she opened it, she was excited and spent the next hour studying the various animals and their locations. The animals are detailed cartoon style images and many are depicted doing funny things (for example, the leaf-cutting ants have swords and spears, the meerkats are peering through a telescope, and one of the bottle-nosed dolphins is drawn with a bottle for a nose). Some younger children may not understand, but I think many older children will appreciate the humor in the drawings. There's also a legend at the top of the map that corresponds with images listed beneath each animal. If you use the legend, you can learn what major animal group it's in, it's feeding habits, how it reproduces, behavior (nocturnal vs. diurnal), and whether it is domesticated or not. The map is colorful and has a nice glossy finish. The paper it's printed on is thick but could certainly stand to be a good bit thicker since this will likely be used by children and get some wear and tear, so that is the reason for the 4 stars. All-in-all I really like this map and I think my daughter does too.

I purchased this map for my five year old grandson for Christmas this year. He loves animals and was so excited to see where they live on the map. I thought he would use it as a roll-up map but he wanted to hang it on the wall in his room. It is a quality map and will last forever. Virtually impossible to tear. I highly recommend this purchase.

Very cool map but it's not in English! I bought it weeks before i actually hung it in my daughters room and didn't notice it was in French until after my return window passed. Nice map either way but i would have preferred the English version.

Where does it say that it would be in French? A good map with good pictures of the animals but totally not understandable for those who do not speak French! Very disappointing in that it was to be a gift.

I bought this poster for my toddler to hang in his bedroom in the hopes that the bright colors and cartoon animal pictures would encourage him to learn more animals. We've had it for a couple of days and he's already added seal and whale to the list of animals he knows and he's very excited to look at the animals. Even when the novelty wears off I think this poster will be great for years. Each animal is placed on the map in the area that they live in and the name and the animal's diet are also listed. This is a cute and fun learning tool and I am very happy that I bought it.The poster arrived a day earlier than expected, the packing was very sturdy and the rather large poster was in perfect shape, and the seller emailed me upon purchase to make sure that I knew that I could contact them with any questions/issues.
