KeeKee's Big Adventures in Athens, Greece

This isn't the book you are looking for
I was searching for books to bulk up the Greece portion of our around the world studies for homeschool (Kindergarten) and came across this book. I crossed my fingers that this would be exactly what I was looking for. It, however, wasn't. The illustrations are what saved this book from slipping into the 1 or 2 star category. The storyline really isn't a story and the writing is enough of an annoyance that I stopped reading the words and just let my daughter look at the pictures. I'm not sure if the author was thinking that a short, dull storyline would help little kids understand more of the content, but it doesn't work. It feels dumbed down rather than simplified.

This is our 3rd book sharing KeeKee's Adventures. The kids love them and we can't wait for the next book. They've been to Paris and Rome and are now looking forward to Athens.

Enjoyable for both kids and adults
KeeKee, an anthropomorphic kitty, along with a collection of her animal friends, wander around Greece in this wonderful children's book. They learn about the wonders of ancient Greece while exploring ancient Athens, then extend their explorations to experience the modern city, as well as a little wandering over modern day Greece. Certainly, the illustrations greatly enhance the tale, which is well handled and well paced by its author. (OK, there's one bad pun that I fear may go over its target audience's head – no spoilers here.)Excellent. And, I understand, not the only book in the series.RATING: 4 1/2 stars, rounded up to 5 stars where 1/2 stars are not permitted.DISCLOSURE: I was awarded a free copy of this book in a random draw. No requirement of a review was made, let alone any conditions on the tone / content of a review, however, it was hinted that winners who write and post honest reviews have a better chance of being selected to receive future books.

Cute
5 STARSKeeKee is a cat traveling in a hot air balloon. He is visiting in Athens, Greece. He gets shown around Athens by other animals living there. It is a cute book that introduces children to Athens, history, a little language, and food. Also at the back has a list of Greek words and how to pronounce them.It makes me want to travel to Greece too. The pictures are good. I know that after I read it, I wanted to look up more information about the places I heard about. Especially Santorini where all the building are white with blue. Plus a volcano took part of island. Also shows a little about Greek Gods, Plato and theater. It does a good job introducing kids to the Greek culture past and present.I was given this book so I could give a honest review of it, and be a part of KeeKee's Big Adventures in Athens, Greece blog tour.Giveaway: One KeeKee's Big Adventures in Athens kitTo enter leave a comment below with name and email address. OPa!
Travelling around the world is so exciting and KeeKee, the calico kitty invites you to accompany her in her hot air balloon because she is flying off to Athens, Greece. Athens is one of the oldest cities in the whole wide world. Want to jump aboard and join her?She is a first class traveller and when she lands she beckons to you to tag along as she explores the famous Greek sights: the Parthenon, the historic theatres, run the olympic stadium with her, and discover the place were Play-doh is created, just to name a few.The shopping in Athens is divine and the food utterly amazing. She stuffs herself on moussaka, olives and tzatziki until she herself looks like a stuffed olive herself. She is educated on the history of Athen's ancient building designs and Plato. Plato was a very, very smart man, and while a philosopher, was also a mathematician and very famous and influential in ancient Greece. The clever author has included a Prononciation guide and Glossary of words, phrases and places at the back of the book. The illustrations are colourful and expressive and young readers will be delighted to become KeeKee's travelling companion and explore beautiful Athens with her. No only is this book entertaining it is also educational which I really like.

It's all Greek to me!
KeeKee is an adventurous calico cat who explores the world, travelling to new places in her hot air balloon. This is the next in a series of books telling of her adventures and this time, as the title suggests, she is visiting Athens in Greece. The story is written with greeting in Greek and English. KeeKee explores the major sites, including the Parthenon and Olympic stadium, eats Greek food, learns about architectural styles and visits the island of Santorini. There are a pronunciation guides and glossary at the end of the book. KeeKee is a brilliant main character through whom children will enjoy being introduced to Greece and its history. I can certainly imagine other teachers welcoming this book as a fantastic way in which to introduce work about Greece to their pupils! Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Big Ups to KeeKee's Big Adventures
The illustrations are fabulous. The writing is playful and informational. The KeeKee’s Big Adventure series is a wonderful way to share the love of international travel and world languages to kiddos. (By the way, you gotta love the sly cameo of a “Greece Monkey” in the Athens book.) Where’s KeeKee gonna visit next?
