FastCapPS-FLAT16 16-Feet Old Standby Standard Flatback Tape Measure

The description does not make it clear that this tape is for "pull" measuring only. It will not give an accurate reading if pushed against a wall, for instance, because the hook does not slide as it does on most tapes. That said, it is great for shop use. I've been a carpenter/woodworker for 25+ years and I've never owned a flat tape, using rulers instead. This is excellent for measuring around curves, and for doing layouts of multiple measurements on a board because you don't have to push the edge of the tape down every time you make a mark. I checked the tape against an expensive machinist's rule, and it was dead accurate out of the box. Some have complained that it doesn't have the detailed fraction enumerations as some Fastcap tapes do, but I find these markings to be annoying clutter, just personal preference. This is a great compliment to the regular "Old Standby" with the curved blade, but it is not a general purpose tape measure. Also, the pencil sharpeners on these are not just a gimmick, they actually work well.

I was recommended Fastcap products and saw that they make a FLAT tape, which is extremely helpful when laying out measurements on boards, with no worry about rocking tape, ensures a very accurate measurement too! I like the "whiteboard" on the side to jot down numbers, and for regular pencil users, the built-in sharpener is very handy. The retractability of the tape is really strong, so keep your fingers clear. All in all, I now own two Fastcap tape measures and I love them!

Great product, however, the bekt clip is far from par! Falls off my belt far too easily!

Yep, this tape measure is very easy to use because of its marking and material. I really like it and can take measurements with ease.

Very well made. I've been using tape measures for 40 years all sorts of brands. And I can tell you this is a quality tape measure especially for the price.

Having a flat tape makes it much easier to get precise measurements!

I use tape measures daily for work as well as for projects at home. These are not ultra durable tapes that you step on to hold in place, however they are fantastic for what they are designed for. I have multiple different tapes from fastcap and the measurements between all 4 match up drastically better than any other tape I have seen. The lock and scratch pad are good to have.

Wow, I wish I purchased this sooner.I use a DeWalt 10" miter saw along with their LED worklight -- the light that casts a shadow of the blade on the workpiece, rather than a laser system.For years I've been using standard taper measures which not only don't lay flat, but tend to have reflective coatings that can sometimes make it difficult to see the shadow accurately.So although I bought this tape measure because it lays flat, making it immensely more accurate to measure 16ths of an inch, it also has a "matte" white coating, which makes it easier to read shadows cast my the worklight.I don't have any comment good or bad about the built-in tape measure and writeable surface. The case is sturdy, but I wish it were a bright color to make it harder to lose in my workshop clutter. But all-in-all, wow, this thing is great.

I would recommend this for the price. No flaws, no issues.

I would really like to give it 5 stars because it's really nice to have a flat tape, but the hook is not properly installed, i had to shim it quite a bit to get proper measures... A bit disappointing.
