I can blow through my drain too in all positions (order just got here)! Will the drain act differently under air pressure?

Air Flow goes in to filter and goes out. The drain is for water trap. You can manually turn on/off. Try to turn off and see if that stop the air blow through drain.

How often does the filter need to be replaced, and does this come with any air hose connectors (male/female quick connects)?

It truly depends on how much you use the item, as far as filter replacement. And no this does not come with quick connects. Usually this filter is put in line with tubing or some other sort of air piping.

Could i place this on the line coming from the pump,before it goes into the tank,to help reduce water from entering the tank?

I don’t know why that wouldn’t work. I have a sailor Belle air compressor and it has 1” x 3’ copper line between the pump and the tank thus cooling the air. When you cool the air the moisture condensates out of the air and then you could use this to catch it before it goes into the tank. Make sure this trap is installed level like it is pictured.

How do i install on pex lines w/o a mounting bracket??? no way to mount to wall/ceiling (and i can't attach to tank)

They make fittings that convert pex to 1/2" or 3/8" pipe thread. I don't know how your running pex without supporting it and not having the tube sag or dip down and collect water.

Worth the price if is holds up.

Filter was sturdy enough to handle daily use in place. Purge valve at bottom of filter was adequate but flimsy. Be careful not to strike it with other objects or it may break. Still testing since it is new. Time and use will tell if it can stand up to workload,

I was hoping this would come with some type of mounting bracket. It doesn't. But, then again, I did choose the least expensive option. works perfectly for what it is. I'd buy another.

LEAKS!!! poor quality and useless...

in about 30 days after install on my big compressor it started to leak down which was unusual as I have a shut off valve right past the regulator and water separator and it was OFF. But I couldn't find the leak until 30 days later when I pumped the compressor back up to Op Pressure. Then it was obvious it was coming from the bottom of this water separator within the small black draincock assembly. So I disassembled it, inspected everything and couldn't find any obvious problem. Reinstalltion yielded the same results. JUNK Chinese parts and engineering. the clear plastic bowl had already started to develop cracks too...
