Better sound and easier string changing. What could be better?
Instead of changing out the plastic nut and saddle for bone/Tusq on my new Epiphone EJ-200 SCE I opted to try Power Pins first and I'm very glad I did. I have been playing and working on acoustic guitars for over 50 years and I have a large bunch, but only two go-toos; I just ordered a set for the second one I like these so much. I took my sweet time on the installation to make sure everything was just right. On this particular guitar I could only use one washer (without the lock washer) because of the thickness of the bridge. I have old ears but I could still hear the obvious difference as soon as I put that first E string on and tensioned it; louder and lots more sustain. The jumbo body solid top Epi has a great sound as it is but any guitar can always use a little tweaking. That said, I'm not sure I would use these on high end guitars such as Martin, Taylor, Gibson, custom builds or the like because those are engineered for the best sound they can get. I bought Power Pins primarily for increasing the performance of the instrument with the ease of string changing being priority #2. I can tell you that it cut down my actual leisurely string installation time by 50% or more. IF I were in a rush, which I'm usually not, it would be even faster. I perform 2-4 times a month so time will tell how these things hold up but I have no real concerns other than being unable to install the lock washers. I think the next time I change strings I'll put a little dab of locktite on each one just for insurance. So what you're getting here is increased guitar performance and faster and easier string changing. Power Pins are all that the manufacturer says they are. If you're serious about your guitar's sound get Power Pins just for that.

Better than expected!!! Easily keeps up with the volume of my harmonica!
What a joy to buy a product that actually far exceeds my expectations! I bought Power Pins 2.0 for the ease of string replacement with only a slight hope of improving resonance. I can truly say that I would give Power Pins a 5 star rating even if they did not improve the sound quality at all. The convenience of quick string replacement is amazing. So fast and easy! I can now change out and tune all my strings, without tools, or fingernails in less than 10 minutes. I have a secret dislike for typical guitar pins. (Not so secret anymore) They tend to move or pop out, unless of course, you want them to come out when its time to replace the strings. Now those old pins seem old and archaic. Also I'm not fond of the strings digging in and making marks into the wood. As an amateur scientist I understand that bridge area is where the resonance of a guitar begins. When you strike a string the vibration of the string runs all the way up to the nut and back hundreds of times per second perfectly vibrating the chosen musical note. The more times the vibration moves back and forth gives sustenance to the sound. Power Pins to the rescue! With bolts underneath you are transferring all the vibration to the wood with maximum efficiency, powerful sound, and beauty. Sustaining a note on an acoustic guitar is hard to achieve since there is no amplification. Making things worse is when I play while using a harmonica. The harmonica tends to be loud and will easily drown out any detail notes on the guitar if I'm not carefully controlling the flow of air. As I tuned up, after installing Power Pins in less than 15 minutes, I suspected I was in for a revolutionary change of sound resonance and quality. Every note is crisp weather bent, held, or when sliding. My wife noticed the volume change from the other end of the house and she didn't even know I had installed Power Pins. This is by far my most satisfying acoustic guitar add on! And the polished pins have a strikingly unique appearance.

Worth reading...
Given the vibration of the strings is absorbed by the bridge and nut, this was an impulse buy out of desperation for my Gibson J-45. I recorded in my studio both pre and post installation. I did not trust my ears, but the waveform was significantly visibly bigger (louder). The boom from the low e seemed to overpower when finger picked initially, but in contrast all the strings seem equally louder after playing and I was mic'ing at 4 inches at the bottom of the neck, which tends to lead to a bad balance on the low notes. To my ears the tone appears a bit less on the low end, but that balanced this guitar out for me. There is undeniable increased sustain, to the point that I will have to alter my playing on some songs. I know there is an explanation for why this actually works, but I don't have it. There is a flaw in the design, however. The pins extend the end of the string past the pin hole far enough that the pins tend to be pulled to either side if not tightened down to a degree I was a bit uncomfortable with. This seems unnecessary to do design-wise. No reason you couldn't make these with no l/r leverage. Installation was easy enough. There is a video review here or somewhere..maybe the product webpage..it shows before and after waveforms and my installation replicated it quite closely. Time will tell if the left to right lever action becomes a problem in gigs. For now, I am pleased.

Highly recommend the Power Pins
installed on 1973 LoPrinzi LR15, spruce top, rosewood back and sides. This guitar has a wonderful, clean mid and upper ranges. Bass is good, but not a boomer like our good old Martin... which is still in the shop having the binding re-glued. Just put the power pins on last night and the difference is remarkable. The guitar has always had a clean sound with good sustain, but now the sound is crystal clean and the sustain is hard to believe. All the way up the neck, too. I also added the D'Addario O-Port (also purchased on Amazon) and the combination of the two items has given the guitar an almost "Martin" bass. It's deep, rich, and, above all, clean and well balanced. I have a big old carved back maple bodied Guild 12 string and I'm going to get a couple of sets to try out on it. I highly recommend the power pins and the O-Port. Installation of the Power Pins was easy, even for a guy with fat fingers. Loosen the strings, pull the old pins, reach in the sound hole with the pin anchor and attach it to the pin (screw it in finger tight and then tighten with the hex key supplied.) feed the string into the slot on the pin and tighten to tune. Actually easier than I'm making it sound. Since I did this original review, I've bought sets for musician friends who are now power pin friends and have also installed them on my '85 Martin D28. How can you improve a D28? Power Pins. Clean, bright amplified-like sound. Hard to believe. Again, sure makes changing strings easy.

Nice upgrade
I originally bought the Power Pins 2.0 for an old Ibanez I have. My son saw them and asked if I can install them on his guitar (Fender Stratacoustic). I wasn't sure if I could because the body of the Stratacoustic is thin. However, I managed to get my hand in just far enough so that I was able to turn the allen wrench with my fingers. There is noticeably more sustain and the tone is brighter. I would recommend these. Now I need to buy another set for my Ibanez.

Great for the Fender Acoustasonic
I replaced the regular pins on my MIM Acoustasonic with these. Easy to install, they make string changing easier, and no worries about string ball ends filling in the guitar. I like their looks. Some people don't. If you are on the fence - I say make the change to power pins. You can always go back.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE THINGS!
These things are amazing! They are easy to install, they make string changes a million times easier, and they really do boost the sound output as promised. I did my own personal 'shootout' when I installed them using the same strings I took off. There was a very noticeable difference in the before and after waves on my DAW. Just make sure you read the instructions because there are letters stamped on the Power Pins "B, M, and T" for 'bass, mid, treble or bottom, mid, top, whatever you want to call it. The string slot is sized differently for each pair so a low E will not fit in a T pin. Other than that, you can make this mod to your guitar in about 15 minute, or 30 minutes if you're taking your time and reading everything thoroughly. This kit comes with everything you need, including an allen wrench installation tool. Let me correct that, it does not come with a bridge pin puller, but if you play acoustic very much you should probably already own one of those. These things really are GREAT! Highly recommended!

Saddle height issue
I really wanted to love these. They look great and they make string changes easy. But my saddle is low because I like low action and that unfortunately causes the higher strings to have virtually no tension. The end result is a noticeable loss of volume and tone on the higher strings. These will only work for players who have a high saddle and high action.

Power Pins
They make string changes easy (as if they weren't already), but the guitar sounds quieter than before, with more sustain.

Perfect for My Lifting Bridge
My Luthier was explaining to me that my beloved old acoustic is needing a bridge replacement or retirement due to bracing and bridge starting to come apart. These were the perfect solution. That bridge ain't going no where now lol. Will likely fit more guitars with this set up. Makes for quick string changes as well and protects the bridge plate.
