Great camera, bought used but when it arrived it looked brand new.

The camera stopped working. Nikon no longer repairs the D5100. Best Buy will repair a D5100 that wasn't purchased from them. Any Ideas?

i love how well the camera performs, i was nervous at first ordering a used camera for the first time. but the quality is great. it did take a while to ship but i mean it was def worth the wait.

This is a great camera to get started in professional photography. The camera is really nice. Put some money into better lenses, The stock lense is decent but your going to want more.

Esta cámara cumple sobradamente con las expectativas calidad/precio del usuario avanzado promedio (me refiero al usuario que no utiliza el modo automático todo el tiempo y prefiere utilizar los consabidos elementos de velocidad obturación, profundidad de campo y otras posibilidades de control creativo de la imagen). No voy a repetir lo que se puede leer en cualquier comparativa que incluya a la D5100, acerca de su excelente sensor y otras características. Bastará con lo dicho, si eres un usuario no profesional y no quieres gastarte más de 500 o 600 euros en tu cámara, esta es una excelente opción. De momento no le he encontrado desventajas, salvo que el manual está en... no sé, algún idioma de Europa del Este, problema que se resuelve bajando el manual en castellano (o inglés) en pdf del sitio de Nikon. Además, cuando la pantalla del visor de la cámara está en Live Vew, es un poco más lenta que cuando se utiliza el visor óptico. Chorradas. La lente del "kit", para fotos normales, está bien. Si quieres más, lógicamente, necesitas un equipo más completo y de mejor calidad, especialmente un tele o un zum con una distancia focal de hasta 300 o 400 mm si te interesa la fotografía de sujetos lejanos. El flash es realmente potente, teniendo en cuenta que se trata de un dispositivo adosado a la cámara. Mi consejo, a unas cinco o seis mil fotos del momento de la compra, es que se trata de una cámara a tener en cuenta para quienes buscan una buena máquina de gama media.

Ein kleines Fazit vorweg: mehr Kamera für's Geld gibt es in der Amateur- oder Mittelklasse nicht. In diesem Punkt ist die Nikon D5100 wie auch schon die D7000 (letztere in der Semiprofiliga) ein Schnäppchen. Das Bedienkonzept ist, für Nikon-Verhältnisse, relativ menülastig. Das ist aber kein gravierender Nachteil, denn es lassen sich durch zweimaliges Drücken der "i"-Taste Zugriffe auf alle fotografisch relevanten Einstellungen ermöglichen. Auf dem scharfen Display werden auch, sehr einsteigerfreundlich, Tipps und Hinweise angezeigt bzw. technische Funktionen wie Blende und Verschlusszeit durch gelungene Symbolik nachvollziehbar dargestellt. Wie bei Nikon üblich, ist die Kamera sehr reichhaltig ausgestattet. Neben reinen Konfigurationsmöglichkeiten kommt auch die kreative Fotografie nicht zu kurz. So ist z. B. auch eine Mehrfachbelichtungsfunktion verfügbar, bei der etwa zwei Aufnahmen zu einer verschmelzen. In Kombination mit dem klappbaren Monitor und den damit machbaren Perspektiven kann der Künstler sich hier voll austoben! Was mir ebenfalls gut gefällt, ist die sehr ordentliche Verarbeitung der Kamera, welche subjektiv wertiger daherkommt als jene der "Plastikbomber" des großen Konkurrenten. Kunststoff ist in dieser Preis-Liga üblich, aber das bringt eben auch einen Gewichtsvorteil. Bei der D5100 stimmt dennoch die Robustheit. Das entscheidende: als großer Kenner des Canon-Systems (inkl. Vollformat) überrascht mich der verbaute Bildsensor der D5100 voll! Die Detailschärfe und Auflösung ist bereits mit dem kleinen, aber sehr brauchbaren 18-55mm VR prima. Bei Blende 8 sogar wirklich gut. Extreme Schwächen, etwa bei offener Blende oder in den Bildecken, oft bei den preiswerten Linsen der Konkurrenz zu beobachten, sind hier nicht vorhanden. Erstaunlich: die lästigen Farbsäume an Kontrastkanten (chromatische Aberrationen) treten selten bzw. nicht störend auf. Mit dem Kitobjektiv von Nikon kann ein Hobbyfotograf gar nichts falsch machen. Und auch Ambitionierte werden das 18-55mm evtl. gerne als leichte Ergänzung zu hochwertigen Festbrennweiten im Rucksack verstauen. Zur Hochform läuft die D5100 erwartungsgemäß mit Festbrennweiten wie dem Nikon 35mm 1,8 auf. Selbst im Vergleich zu einer Vollformatkamera des großen Konkurrenten braucht sich der 16 Megapixel Bildsensor nicht verstecken. Die Bilder wirken sehr klar und sind einfach brilliant und schön - bei Nikon fängt tolle Bildqualität nicht erst bei 1.600,- € an. Dies gilt auch bei hohen ISO-Einstellungen. Zumindest bis ISO 4000 sind noch schöne Abzüge in A4 od. A3 drin - das war vor einigen Jahren noch nicht so. Zum Autofokus: die 11 Messfelder sind sehr sinnvoll im Sucher angeordnet. Man kann gut in den "Goldenen Schnitt" fokussieren. Die Treffgenauigkeit ist überzeugend; wenn das AF-Hilfslicht eingeschaltet ist, auch noch in der Dämmerung. Wer noch mehr Flexibilität möchte, muss zur D7000 oder zur D5200 greifen. Deren 39 Messfelder wollen bei schwierigen Motiven aber auch erstmal ausgewählt werden, was etwas den Arbeitsfluss bremst. Fazit: kleine, schnuckelige Kamera mit tollen Qualitäten. Mit "Kit"-Objektiv genau das richtige für's Bummeln, den Wochenendtripp oder den Urlaub. Mit hochwertigen Objektiven fast schon unverschämt smart hinsichtlich der Bildanmutung. Die sehr gelungen Kontrastverteilung mit klasse Durchzeichnung auch der kritischen Lichter sowie die lebendigen Farben sind vorbildlich - da kann die Marke mit dem großen "C" noch soviel Rummel um eigene Neuerscheinungen machen. Rein subjektiv: das kompakte, leicht bullige Gehäuse mit nikontypischen Designelementen macht die D5100 auch optisch zu einem "Eyecatcher" und Sympathieträger. Die kleine hat's drauf - und das sage ich mit durchaus professionellem Anspruch.

Les images : très belles, fines, contrastées et avec un bon piqué, un très bon rendu des profondeurs de champ : c'est un vrai plaisir. ... et la sensibilité : incroyable ! pas de bruit, rendu excellent ! Donc idéal quand on évite le flash ! L'usage : facile à manier avec sa poignée, réglages faciles et en français (presque aussi pratique que les réglages des Lumix de chez Pana !...). Quant aux préréglages et options possibles, ils sont plus nombreux que nécessaire. L'écran pivotant dans toutes les directions, robuste comme on dit, permet de photographier sous tous les angles. Je l'ai depuis un an, je fais les réglages manuels et suis très content de cet appareil. Je regrette seulement de n'avoir pas pris un objectif 18 - 105, car le zoom est un peu limite sur ce modèle. Chargeur : sans câble, il se fixe directement sur la fiche murale, ce qui est pratique : peu encombrant.

Ok firstly let me say this is not a technical expert review, rather a review of an averagely intelligent electrical engineer that has taken up DSLR photography. My first and most important point is going to talk about Camarthan Cameras. I have had some technical issues with the camera, that turned out to be partly due to my still learning and a dodgy lens i was using. The level of support/service i got was nothing short of excellent. It has been an absolute refreshing change to receive prompt responses to problems, to answer questions on the phone and provide an excellent after sales care, to the point i've even bought a book for the D5100 and another lens of them. I have absolutely no affiliation with the company, in fact i don't think i could further away from them. I would recommend them to anyone wanting camera equipment on here 100% Now to the camera I bought a Bridge camera and knew instantly i wanted a full DSLR, so against the wive's better judgement, i sold my Bridge camera and bought the Nikon D5100 after reading a thousand reviews on several different cameras. I came to the conclusion that all the major DSLR makers have plus and minus points, you have to decide what is right for you. The camera arrived with the 18-55mm lense and after reading the manual i carefully attached the lense. (trust me you are so nervous about damaging the sensor, the glass the cpu, but just line it up correctly, ensure your camera is off and insert the lense. Charged battery, which only took 45mins inserted battery and then SDXC card 32GB. Turned on and set the camera to program P. (Get off auto and use program until you are happy to move onto A,S, & M modes, which doesn't take long). Secondly after having POS and Bridge cameras i spent 5 mins trying to operate the zoom, LOL. You operate it manually by turning the zoom part of the lense. I am still waiting to get out in the field and really test the capabilities of the camera, but so far all the pet photos ive done are crisp and clear. ( and when they are not it is not the cameras fault.) I have since ordered a sigma 70-300mm lense and tested it and it is a superb budget second lense and should be enough for your needs for now. I am currently following books and video tutorials on getting the best settings for different situations then trying them and recording them on paper until i can embed them in the brain. One thing i am surprised about is the lack of auto ISO in S, A & M modes, but personaly i cannot see any graining on ISO settings up to 3200. But i dont inspect photos at A3 size with a magnifyinh glass either. Ok waffle over Conclusion This camera is seriously cheap for what you receive. It will perform all of the actions you require if you are not a proffessional photographer. Dont listen to some that say dont get the 18-55mm lense it is a good little lense to start off with and comes with VR and AF-S. There are a ton of settings and ways to get to them. Honestly ive spent more of the week learning these than actually taking photographs, as i beleive you need to be slick with settings to capture the moment. This really is a superb camera. If you get lost in the settings and think the camera is playing up, use the two green buttons to reset all the camera settings before thinking its broken (it will save you sending it off. speak to Camarthan Cameras on the phone, they will tell you what you have done _DOH) Finally Go to the Nikon website and create an account, then register your camera for a full 2 year manufacturers warranty.
