Lonely Planet Kids How Cities Work (How Things Work)

Worth every penny!
I really enjoy reading this book to my 7 year old son at night. The book is pretty massive and will take a few nights to get through it if you read it as a bedtime story. The artwork and illustrations are amazing. So much detail that it is hard to get bored with the book. The flaps that show inside apartments or underground add to the entertainment. I also purchased how airports work. I really appreciate books like this and look forward to many more!

My kid is facinated
This series by lonely planet is absolutely brilliant. We got the airport book in this series as a gift and are now onto this one. My kid is 5 years old and fascinated by anything travel and engineering related. He is fascinated by the STEM themes in this book: sewers, construction, transportation, the future. The flaps, design, and information in this book are top notch. A great book for any child ages 4-9. Plus the price is great.

Lots of learning
Our family is enjoying reading this book. We live in a city and this book has been a great way to answer questions about all the things we see everyday. It also makes a great coffee table book. Just fun to read.

Great find!
I bought this for my 5 year old for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. Nearly every day he pulls it out and studies a different section of the book. The pages have little doors to discover and some of the pages fold out to see a city block or a skyscraper. Some of the words are a little difficult for my child but he loves learning about how cities work. Great job, lonely planet!

Some great, some awful
There’s a lot to like about this book. It’s got great illustrations with lots of text and lots of different themes and details to talk about. The big downside - some of the language is really problematic (see photo). There are ways to talk about types of housing beyond “suburbs vs. projects” and defining areas as luxurious vs. dirty, etc.Looking for a positive since I’m past the return date - it creates an opening to talk about difficult topics, language and word use, etc.I’m not into banning or forbidding books, but this is not something I’d just turn my kid loose with at the beginning without looking at together and finding things to discuss.

Excellent content and illustrations!
Beautiful book, as an architect and lover of big cities i wanted to share my passion with my 3yo. Toddler. I try to simplify the info for now but its a book that needs time and maturity to be processed… it will grow up with my little one. She loves it!

Great book
The book is excellent from content level, but the seller who sent it , sent a " sample copy not for resale" so guess it was very wrong on his part to do so
