Yes, there is a SATA controller chip on this card and yes it does support booting from a M.2 (not Msata), and NOT M.w NVMe (which is the new very fast storage interface). It will boot M.2 AHCI. I have pci-e 1x slots, will this adapter fit on those?

Yes, that is what it says in the description. Just be aware that the M.2 slots are SATA, so you cannot use an NVME (i.e. PCIEx4) SSD in this adapter, but only SATA SSDs.
