Harsh and Hot tweeters!
I installed these in my 2009 F150 regular cab with high expectations. I used these to replace a set of JBL coaxial speakers in order to improve my sound staging. I was powering them with 120 watts RMS and paired with a 10” sub crossed over at around 80Hz. First off, these are really not 6x8 as stated, they’re made for 5x7 openings, which is common in this category unfortunately, but these left visible air gaps that were not present with the JBLs. The cone was about 1/2” smaller than the JBLs and contributed to the fact that these cannot handle hardly any bass/midbass. They’re extremely bright even with the tweeters on the quietest setting to the point that i had everything above 4kHz set at -6db on my EQ and if you add a little bass boost from the amp, they just start distorting. They weren’t capable of adequately meeting my subwoofer at a decent crossover point, and while they did sound quite nice and clear, the ear fatigue was almost immediate without the aforementioned EQ settings, and i was missing too much midbass to keep then around. Replaced with JBL components and they are much softer sounding and can handle far more midbass in the same size (plus no air gaps around the frame).
