Unlocking The Bible Story: Old Testament Volume 1

This is my second time reading through this series with our Wednesday Night Bible Study Group. This series truly "unlocks" the Bible story.

This is a great set. it was gifted and very much appreciated. The author Colin Smith is a gifted author.Money well spent.

Colin Smith does an admirable job of selecting and explaining key segments of the Bible (Vol. 1 covers from Gen 1 through Neh. 8) and showing how they interrelate into a divinely weaved pattern that ultimately discloses the good and generous heart of the one true and living God. It is particularly helpful in showing how the stories and events of the O.T. set the stage for properly comprehending the beauty and wisdom of God in providing a remedy for our self-inflicted destruction through the intercession of His own Son on our behalf. Without compromising His absolute holiness and justice, God demonstrates with stunning generosity the attributes of His love and grace. Colin helps readers to connect the dots of what we really observe in human nature and creation, not to mention the flow of thought through the 1st half of the O.T. Very satisfying book. We are using this in our adult S.S. class, and it is great to help our people understand the overall storyline of the Bible, since many of them are reading through the One Year Bible at the same time (a reading schedule of which is found, by the way, in the back of Vol. 1 of Unlocking the Bible Story).

I have read many books about the Bible, but few have captured my attention like this one. I have been in church all my life, and was saved at an early age. I "know" the Bible. However, this has given me some new insight--things I just didn't consider or put together before. I am currently reading it to my children. It is written so that they can understand it and get a good understanding of how the Bible all works together.

Colin Smith is a brilliant teacher. My Bible Study is going through this 4 Volume series and learning so much. We have read the Bible, cover to cover, and now we are grasping gems from Smith. (He also has sermon series pod casts on line that I love listening to.)
