So funny!
I've been a fan of Patrick McManus for years and years! I bought this book to share the humor with my grandchildren. I think that they will enjoy it as much as I did.

Classic American Literature
Patrick McManus is America's backwoods Shakespeare. His stories of life growing up in rural America are extremely entertaining: I've seen an entire room of men rolling on the floor... literally! Boys and grown-up boys of all ages enjoy his dry humor, his creative descriptions of the trouble he gets into, and the way he communicates effectively the joys and pains of growing up.We have close to 10 of Pat's books now, and all of them provide evenings of rollicking fun and excitement. This one is no exception. Call up the guys, find somebody who's a good reader, and enjoy the hilarity! Sometimes it's just as fun to watch the people listening as they fall off of furniture and gasp for breath between guffaws... but soon you'll be doing the same, so keep listening!Note: your wife, girlfriend or other women in your life will look at you as if you've gone crazy when you read this book. For reasons I don't quite comprehend, most women don't seem to appreciate the humor, but that's OK. It's a man's book, written for men, and if they don't find it hilarious it's just proof that we're different, right? Let them read their mushy love stories; us men will stick to tales of the American wilderness, written by our all-American outdoor hero. Besides, what's funny about love stories?

Will always keep
Mcmanus was a comedy hero. He has tainted my sense of humor, some call odd. I'm so proud to have had the exposure to this "odd" humor.

Very entertaining
This book is hysterical - and I don't hunt or fish! Patrick McManus, based on his stories, is not a successful hunter or fisherman -- but he sure tries! (I suspect he's quite successful.) This is laugh-out-loud material. His books are a series of short stories and each one is either from his childhood, his college days, or his adult life. Regardless of where he was in life, you'll just crack up at his misfortunes. All of his book are like this. I highly recommend them and you truly need not be an outdoors person to enjoy them.

Beyond Funny
Got 3 of these books for a Dad who does not like to read. And with Winter, covid and his advanced age he needed something this Winter. He is reading and laughing and sharing. They are AWESOME!

Laughter is the best medicine!
My husband had "They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?" and always laughed so hard whenever he read it. So I bought more of this author's books when my husband was in the hospital with a stroke. I think reading them and laughing so much, helped him get better. After all laughter is the best medicine!

Faster and Better results than Zoloft
I've just started re-reading some old and now newer Patrick's works. Man if you just want to laugh and become part of his short stories check his works out. This guy is better than Zoloft. I started reading his works in the early 90's. I saw his one man play in Portland. My wife knows when I'm reading his books even when I'm in the other room. I work in Mental health, a 5 minute break gets me out of my pissy attitude, although my coworkers just think I'm crazy. I think they just don't know how to laugh

Poor print quality
You can't spoil McManus. The stories are five star but the print quality is VERY poor. It is bordering on fuzzy. Disappointed as this is to be a gift.
