Story of a College Drop-out Who Became India's Biggest Private Milk Producer
R G Chandramogan is not known other than in Tamil Nadu. He is India's biggest private milk producer. In 2019-20, his dairy, Hatsun, collected 27 lakh litres of milk per day. Its market cap on 9 October 2021 was Rs 31,493 cr and Chandramogan owns 74 percent of the stock. He started 50 years ago selling ice candies and ice cream through hawkers in pushcarts. That was after he blanked out during a chemistry exam. Unfazed, he left the exam hall and saw two movies back to back. This is a story of grit. Though Chandramogan is the largest private milk producer, his company is dwarfed by GCMMF, the cooperative behind Amul which collects 24.6 million litres per day.

Good read
Giving it a two star because there are too many abbreviations and difficult to keep track some of the details are pretty frivilous from the readers point of view .

Inspiring book
A bit dry and heavy on details, but an interesting read nevertheless. Shows how much work went into the success story called Hatsun.

This kind of patience is rare in present generation to grow organically
This kind of journey and patience is rare and may not be possible to replicate again in our life time. Enough said. Read it again and again to understand the time taken to achieve what Sri Chandramogan had to sacrifice in his life time. Good to see he remembers and quotes everyone who helped in his journey. Relationships are important in business.Sri Harish Damodaran did a good job. My only grunt is that this book is small in size. For what HAP achieved, we need at least 500 pages or more. Nevertheless, it is a dream achieved with sweat and conviction.Sri Chandramogan's maternal uncle Sri Sivanesapandian did a great service to the country by asking his nephew to enter into ice cream business. Kind souls and existing ice cream manufacturers like Sri Lakshamanaswami and Sri Vijaya Gopal helped the restless 20 something youngster to venture into ice cream business. This is amazing and present day young generation should see the merit of sharing for common good and growth of sector. Is this old school or still relevant in current times. I wonder.Similarly Sri Jimmy Rana of Dinshaws who advised Sri Chandramogan to enter into milk business was again a great talent spotter. Equally amazing is the conviction of Smt. Dhanalakshmi who understood the product and place even before RGC understood. All great souls. It is a journey that needs to be understood by any entrepreneur who wants to build Indian brand and stay Indian. Highly recommended.

A Company's wonderful biography
This book is the biography of a Company from birth till date . It is well written and very readable. The author must be congratulated that he did not skip to avoid talking about the misadventures of the founder of the Company . This little book is a sort of a case study.

Delightful read, grounded in reality
Harish had done a fantastic job of capturing history of Hatsun, and i found in it an amazing story of the diary industry in India. I remembered the dairy engineering course I did in my final year engineering and could relate to it's application in industry. If you have to learn from history, Harish is a wonderful author to choose.
