Can't beat this price!
This is nice, and you can't beat the price! Mats this size at the store are at least twenty bucks more. It was rolled very tightly so I was on all 4's trying to hold down the edges to get it to stay. Once I did it looks great, is staying in place, and will protect my wood floor. It's clearer than I thought it would be based on other reviews so that's a plus. Smell is no big deal and will fade quickly. So pleased I bought the one with the lip for the litter box.

As described
As described, and as many have commented has strong smell when un-boxed and rolled up pretty tight in shipping, making it want to curl when initially put down. Neither were an issue for me, I put mine down in the afternoon and by the next morning it was laying flat and the smell only took a few days to diminish. It will clean your wheels the first time you roll around on it...think it's the coating that keeps the rolled up plastic from bonding to it's self ( source of smell as well)... Slightly textured surface, chair rolls well on it. Has a interesting purple tint in the sun. Protects my flooring..

Great for the price
I spent way too long looking at chair mats before deciding on this cheaper one, and I'm happy with my choice.- Apparently I got my mat from a lucky batch because I had no problem with a strong odor at all even on the first day - only a slight scent that reminds me of an office supply store and even that went away in a day (and yes, I do have a sensitive nose and I do usually complain about the scent of things).- The mat arrives rolled, and I flatted it out - extremely easily - and kept 3 heavy objects on each of the short ends for 3 days before I was satisfied with how flat the edges were. I could have taken the objects off after 1 day and survived just fine but I wanted it as flat as possible! It's slightly "wrinkled" still after one week of use but I can see it getting better.I think that's just the price I have to pay for getting this one instead of the expensive alternatives. I'm not really bothered by it.- There is a slight iridescent lavender sheen to it if you look at it from most angles at least a few feet away from it. It's not bad but I can see why it might bother people who have rooms with really specific interior design. The lighter the floor underneath, the more "purple" it will appear... one of my photos pretty accurately demonstrates how "purple" it appears to me if I'm standing more than a few feet away from it.- The bottom sits on hard flooring perfectly fine. I purposely bought one without the "teeth" meant for carpet use, of course. There's a reason the title says "for hardwood floors". Other versions have grippy teeth that sink into the carpet.- As far as protection goes... It seems to be doing quite well. Wheels don't dent the vinyl flooring underneath it and even non-caster chairs can sit stationary without issue so far. I've only been using it for a little over a week and I will update my review in the future if any problems occur but I'm satisfied so far. It far exceeds what I imagined considering it's about half the price of ones in office supply stores around me.- My photos are from just after day 3 of flattening it with objects. It's slightly better by now and I expect it to continue improving.

Permanently curled up edges, I might return it
This mat is a piece of crap. I forget how much I spent on it, and I am not sure how easy it would be to return, but I might return it. I definitely won't ever use it.Odor:When first removed from the package, it had a strong and unpleasant odor. It smells like burning mixed with chemicals. For about 24 hours, the odor was so strong that it stunk up the whole room. The odor dissipated rapidly after that. Now it has been two or three weeks, and I can still smell it if I put my face right up to the mat, but the odor is not a problem anymore.Curled edges:This problem is really bad. The mat came in a tight cylindrical roll, and the mat so badly wants to roll back up. The mat *will not* lie flat on my rug. For the past two or three weeks it has been sitting in the sun room with weights on the corners, but it still wants to curl up as soon as the weights come off.I am considering ironing the damn thing with a warm iron. Or returning it. Or just throwing it in the garbage.

Not as good on carpet
I discovered that the vinyl is a touch soft. It protects the carpet but it sinks in and holds the chair. It is actually harder to move the chair on the mat than on the carpet if you've been sitting on it awhile. The vinyl seems to be holding up, no cracks, holes or breaks are made by this by there are now semi permanant divits where the chair nomally rests.

Can't go wrong with this floormat!
An inexpensive solution to your office chair destroying your flooring! It is what it is! This is the one for hardwood floors, because it has no grippy nubs you typically find on the carpet units. I ordered it anyway despite having carpet, and it does slip a little bit, but the slippage is minimal, and some double stick tape on the underside fixed the problem. It flattened out within the day. The smell was strong, but not terrible, and dissipated quickly. My dog likes to lay on it because it's nice and cool, and he's got a more sensitive sniffer than I do. When I move my chair, there are dimples on the unit where my wheel casters sit, but it's probably the result of me using the thing on carpet with padding instead of a solid floor, so I can't fault the product for me misusing it. There is a carpet unit too, but it has a lip, which I don't like or need. So, even though I ordered the "wrong" product, I'm still perfectly happy with this thing.
