This is such a great grinder. For the price, which is at the lowest end of acceptable manual grinders, it is a very good grinder. It feels very pleasant to grind, it grinds quickly, and it is easy to use. It is very solid, its previous version had a little issue with the top cover which is now fixed, and the rubber grip ring can slide up or down so its easy to hold on to however you hold it. My only two gripes about this grinder which is most likely also the case for a lot of other grinders as well, is that the stainless threading on the grind catcher doesnt offer any sort of resistance, what that means is even though the threading is very nice, it can come unscrewed just as easily as it can be screwed on. To some people this might even be a benefit, but to me when I am grinding, my palm can unscrew the catch if im not careful. It has never come off all the way but with a simple little silicone or rubber ring at the top of the threading it would prevent that. The other slight issue I have is the wooden grip on the handle does not rotate easily. You can choose to either grip the wood hard while grinding to force it to rotate, or you can grip the wood very soft and allow the wood to spin in your palm while grinding, but there is no in between, if you grip the wood medium and try to grind it will just pull on your skin and kindof hurt. Like a N64 controller while playing mario party. These 2 minor gripes aside, this grinder is incredible for the money. Obviously if you are SUPER into coffee and want to spend more money you could get better results or a larger capacity grinder going with a 200$+ 1zpresso grinder or something but honestly this one still is comparable to those at less than half the price.

I've had this for years now and still love it. The grind consistency is perfection - no fines, no boulders. Sometimes it gets hung up and you have to back it off a bit to continue the grind, but it’s NBD. Forget electric grinders, this works anywhere and you get a bit of an arm workout!

For the price this grinder is quite good. I can get the grinds fine enough for bottomless espresso shots. However, I can't seem to get it to grind on that setting without gradually stepping it down, which is to say, I will first coarse grind from another grinder and place those in the hopper, as full beans don't seem to catch. maybe I was using too fine a setting though? I will keep trying. It works well enough, easier to grind that way anyway. The body is solid metal, there is a hard plastic inside which is a shame, but It doesn't seem to be a weakpoint. Really, if you don't have the 600+ to spend on a big boy grinder for home espresso, this is a good choice. The case is pretty swanky too.

This grinder is the absolute best you can possibly buy in this price point. It’s high quality, feels solid in the hand and in grinding, can grind so fine it’ll clog your filter, and over the past year or so I’ve been making espresso and pour overs every day through this grinder and it’s absolutely phenomenal. Even compared to a previous still same priced electric coffee grinder made by Hamilton beach (as you could probably guess) which was not very consistent and produced many fines. It’s been outputting the same quality and consistency since the day it arrived at my doorstep and I’ve put hundreds of dollars worth of coffee through this thing I truly think for the price it cannot be any better. It makes the output of even my off brand cheap espresso machine worlds better after properly tuning. If you’re on a budget but want to get more serious with the process of making coffee, this is an amazing purchase.

I've used the Normcore grinder (38mm) daily for 2 years. I'm very satisfied. I use the grinder with a manual Cafelat espresso press, so I am always very aware of the grind fineness and quality. The grind is definitely fine enough for espresso and even finer (would be fine enough for Turkish powder methods). The grind quality seems very good, with visually uniform particle size. Be aware that every bag of coffee might require a slightly different setting, so after the first shot from a new bag, I might need to adjust by one click, but this is the case with every grinder (the adjustment can change with humidty, phase of the moon, etc.). The Normcore grinder has precise enough clicks for these small adjustments. When first using, out-of-the-box, you must find the "zero" point on the fineness adjustment (as with most grinders). Just keep clicking finer and finer until the handle does not spin freely - and that's the zero point. It would be nice if the fineness scale was numbered, but I was able to "dial in" my espressso grind with just a few uses, and for the past 2 years, I've been using thosee single-click adjusments I mentioned before. A really nice and affordable grinder.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I am an airline pilot and we live on coffee. Nothing keeps my freight crew happier than really good coffee in the middle of the night and this little grinder really helps with that. Pros: >It is very compact and takes up a lot less space than my last grinder (I don't carry it in the case, just stuff it in a clean sock). >It grinds very uniformly, and the click adjustment is really good for dialing in your perfect grind (the instruction recommended settings are rubbish though). >It grinds FAST with much less effort than my previous grinder. >The hopper at the bottom holds ~24g of grounds. Perfect or two cups in my Aeropress Cons: >A bit heavy, but it's machined metal, so I'm OK with that. >The grind chamber won't hold 24g of whole bean, so you just have to add them in two batches. Again, a minor quibble. It's a compact little beastie. >Static Electricity! That was troublesome until I learned the trick of stirring the whole bean with a damp finger for a few seconds. It sounds weird but the internet said it worked and the internet was right. That little bit of moisture negates the static from grinding. All in all I am extremely happy with this little powerhouse. The quality of workmanship and the consistency of the grind are fantastic. It is compact and does all I hoped for. Hopefully it will keep up it's performance in the long haul, but so far I am very impressed.

Upgraded to the Normcore V2 after seven years with a Hario Skerton. The short, this has been life (morning) altering and I should have leveled-up sooner. The quality is stellar. I've had no trouble with the knob not spinning as a few have reported. My biggest gripe was hopper capacity, stated to hold 25 grams, but it will comfortably take 30 grams as the lid will compress the beans a little before you start to grind, perfect for me. For another $55 the Normcore V2 44mm burr has a hopper that takes 35 grams. The biggest win, speed! 28 grams was taking me 2 to 2.5 minutes with the Hario Skerton which is now 40-45 seconds with the Normcore for a French Press grind. Making coffee for guests was always a real PITA and now, no problem! Some comments note the lack of numbered step adjustments which might be a concern if you're switching between brewing methods often. I wasn't prepared to drop $250+ on a grinder and I'm thrilled at how well this works. Highly recommend!

First one showed up used, and I later learned had a small part missing. Amazon promptly correct this, and I got a new one to try out, so I'll update my review. Got out some simple blond roast coffee and set it to 16 clicks. The grind came out perfectly, with a very even consistancy. It required a little bit of elbow grease, but that's part of the enjoyment of it, especially if you're someone like me that enjoys doing everything manually. Put it in my french press and it came out a great little cup of coffee. The grinder feels sturdy, well built, and simple to use. I can't really lobby a complaint at this product. It does what it's advertises, and it does it very well for its price point.

Purchased this grinder as my 2 year old Porlex mini’s bur has broken inside. This feels like a big upgrade I. Terms quality of materials, ease of use and overall grind consistency. I use this only for pour over grind setting and it takes more than 20 clicks for me. Highly recommended for the price and value you get.

I have been using my Normcore V2 hand grinder for over 2 years now. I grind typically for a V60. With a light roast bean I typically grind for a 3 minute brew (slightly finer than most people who claim a 2 minute brew). This is typically 20 to 25 clicks. For an AeroPress I have gone as fine as 5 clicks but it was quite bitter (too fine). I have not used it for espresso but I'm confident that 5 or less clicks would be espresso fine. When I first purchased the grinder, it had an aluminum handle which broke after 78 days. Normcore customer support was fantastic. They send me a new handle for no charge. The second handle lasted 182 but it too broke. Light roast beans are VERY hard to grind and an aluminum handle just couldn't handle it. After my second complaint, Normcore customer support was just as fantastic (almost 9 months later). They agreed that the handle had to be steel and sent me a steel handle. I have been using my Normcore with the steel handle for over 2 years now and absolutely no issues. It works fantastic. I adjust the grind setting all the time depending on the roast, flavour, age, etc. of the beans and the brew method I use. The adjustment continues to work perfectly. Originally, the Normcore V2 cost me $120. With the redesign (steel handle) it is comparably to $200 hand grinders. I think I was lucky to get this awesome grinder at $120 but if I needed to buy a new hand grinder today, I'd still buy a Normcore V2 again. Other hand grinders for under $200 don't seem to be comparable. The lowest setting on other grinders (like the Timemore) aren't fine enough for AeroPress and definitely not fine enough for espresso or turkish coffee. The Normcore really does produce an incredibly fine grind if you want.
