Tripp Lite Multi-Function Optical Fiber Cable Tester with Power Meter, Light Source & Visual Fault Locator (T020-001-PSF)

Tests cables and network wiring, easy to use, should be durable.
This tester is compact and easy to use I've only been using it for a few weeks, but it is far better than inspecting connections visually or trying to use an ohmmeter on network cables. This will definitely stay in my box of network tools. It can be used to test 8-pin RJ45 data cables, network wiring, RJ12 phone cords, phone wiring, and coaxial cables. To test network or phone wiring, first test two jumper cables to make sure they are good, then disconnect the wiring from modems, routers, computers, phones, or other equipment. Use the jumper cables to connect the tester at one end and the remote at the other end, and turn on the tester. If the green lights come on sequentially at both ends, then the wiring is good. If they come on out of order at the remote end, then the jacks are mis-wired at one or both ends of the run. Coaxial cable is even easier to test, using the LED terminator provided as a remote.Be careful not to insert 6-pin modular telephone plugs into the 8-pin jacks; they are difficult to remove, and there is a risk of damaging the jacks. For the same reason, don't attempt to test 4-pin modular telephone cords. The only drawback of this tester is that light spills over to the adjacent LEDs, sometimes making it hard to tell which one is lit. However, by viewing the LEDs straight on and using the slow speed if necessary, it is reasonably easy to tell which LED is brightest. If I ever take the tester apart, I may paint the sides of the LEDs to avoid this problem.Although there are cheaper testers that look identical, I bought the Tripp Lite tester because it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Simple yet confusing instructions
For checking Cat6 signals, worked great. Very simple despite very confusing instructions. First try on a patch cable to confirm it works and how to read the device on a known working cable. Not sure what the coax adapters for it came with.Uses a 9 volt battery which isn’t supplied.

Good In Theory, Slightly Flawed In Application
As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the blade on the cutting end of the 66 punch down bit notches very easily. In fact, it did so on the first 66 punch down I performed with it. This appears to be a result of the edge being poorly prepared by the company that made the actual bit. I was able to easily rectify this using a metal file and a blade sharpener. It now functions perfectly and I don't expect to have any further issues with it as I have performed more than a dozen 66 punch downs hence and the edge has not notched. However, I believe a tool should work from the start without needing any modification or refinement on the part of the user unless they are made aware of this need before purchase. If your work is mostly 110 punch downs with an occasional 66 punch down and you don't mind correcting the flaw in the 66 bit this tool is probably a good bet. If your work is mostly 66 punch downs with some 110 punch downs you'd probably be best served by avoiding this tool and purchasing something more reliable.Another issue is the Hi/Lo impact setting. It is unusually difficult to adjust this tool from Lo to Hi, although going from Hi to Lo is not as trying. If you plan to leave it on one setting most of the time this is probably a non-issue, but if you plan to change the Hi/Lo settings frequently you may find using this tool to be rather frustrating.

So far so good
So far so good. I have used the tester both on a Cat 5 cable and BNC RF cable and it has worked as expected. I need to understand more the theory behind how the tester tells whether the RF cable is good or not but I have test a couple of known good RF cables and they have pass and one cable that was old did not so...... I am happy with the results thus far.

Good cable tester, made by a company with a good track-record
Arrived on time and well packaged. The tester works as expected. I have another tester, but it requires having a long, known good, cable to connect the two ends of a long cable that may extend from one place to a remote location. This one overcomes that problem by having the test results on either end of the otherwise "open", long cable. Being able to test several types of cable is a plus. The "economy" of construction leaves this machine a little less robust than one might want for a device one might want to carry around in a collection of other tools and which might receive some knock-about in transit, though that problem can be addressed with a bit of care in packing it for transport.

Good For What It Is
It's a very simple cable tester that gives you just enough information to know that your cable is functioning and it's what you'd expect to get for the price. The QA is decent and the plastic doesn't feel too cheap. It does what I need it to do so I'm satisfied.

A very good tool except for one thing.
I knew about this problem with the tool by reading other reviews. The spare tool holder built into the handle does not secure the tool bit very well. Using it last week, I found the 66 bit on the floor as I was scrambling around trying to finish the cabling job I was tasked with. My thoughts are to replace the mechanism with one from my other old tool. Or just transfer the 110 and 66 bits to my old trusty blue and Yellow handle that just needed fresh bits.

Inexpensive, easy to use
I needed a way to test some Cat5 running though my house. Watched a utube video. Looked easy. Bought this unit from Amazon. Easy to use, worked great, cost little. A win all around.

Ethernet tester
I've only had a couple of weeks, but what I like about this tester is the master and the remote lock together and also it doesn't matter which end your at when testing you know if it failed or past, which some testers don't. If I had to find fault with it, it doesn't send a tone down the cable so you can use a cable finder with it and I don't think it's necessary to have RJ11 socket on it because these plugs are smaller and can fit in the RJ45 testing socket which is already their. But I,m still happy with it.

Buen material
En la fotografia puede parecer un material economico, pero ya fisicamente tiene buena calidad, a pesar de que es maquilada y no fabricada ya que he visto otras marcas que son exactamente igual. Aguanta el uso rudo y poncha muy bien

Simple but effective
It only detects simple things like open circuits and misswired connectors. However, for home wiring that is surprisingly more than enough. It correctly diagnosed a loose connection in some cat6 wires I had made.

Good Quality Network/Cable Tester
I was looking for a simple and easy to use network/cable tester that also featured a tone generator with accompanying receiver. The build quality is very good and feels solid. The product also includes the batteries (9V) for the main tester and tone receiver.
