Let's Tell a Story: Space Adventure

We LOVE this book!
My son is 6 and received this book from the Easter Bunny. We are having so much fun creating our own wild space adventures with it. It has a huge amount of silly and some more logical choices that can be made as you go through the pages adding details to the story you’re creating. We laugh so much every time we read it and it’s already showing him how much better his stories are when he adds more details. I definitely see us going back to this one over and over for years to come and I honestly wish I’d had it when I taught elementary school. We will definitely be gifting this in the future and can’t wait to add the fairy tale version to our library!

Don't buy this book if you ever want to read a different children's book again!
Don't buy this book if you want to have time to do anything else. Since this book arrived in the house, my 5 year old has not put it down. We spent 30 minutes together as she started her first adventure. I needed to go do something so I tapped out and my husband stepped in with her for another 30 minutes as she continued adventure after adventure. Eventually he needed to stop so she engaged my 9 year old and have been working on creating an adventure together. Since that first day she has only wanted to do her own adventure stories and not read any of the other millions of books we have at home. I'm sure it's just a phase but for now, this is the only book she wants to read for the last few days.Beyond being just a fun interactive book, I think this might even be a great starting point for me to generate a writing assignment for my 9 year old. The skeleton of a story is there with suggestions on how to fill in the story. This book is essentially the picture book version of choose your own adventure stories. It guides the child from choosing a character to filling in details regarding their journey. This Space Adventure version of the book includes many space themed suggestions in the book. We view the pictures and storyline in the book as suggestions and a base to jumpstart our creativity. After the first time, our stories have become more and more silly and the only limit to what happens in each unique story we craft is our imaginations.I can't recommend this book enough as a great way to unlock the creativity and storytelling in a child. We were so impressed with this book that we also ordered the Fairy Tale version of it. Hopefully, my daughter will be willing to switch out the space adventure book for the fairy tale once it arrives.Review for:Let's Tell a Story! Space Adventure

Encourages Giggles, Creativity, and Fun
Who doesn’t love the idea of a choose your own adventure book — but instead of having to skip around between pages, your little one is encouraged to pick from imagination-provoking items to tell a space-visitation story page-by-page by selecting an item and then making up circumstances. For older children they can also add adjectives and adverbs to make the story even more interesting. The choices of things your child will narrate into their story range from cute to silly to snort-inducing. Artwork in this book is top-notch and is really what makes this book shine. Images are detailed and cute and there is an eye-catching small border around each page. What makes the concept even better is that your child is encouraged to select different items each time you read the book so the story is never the same. My son, at 4, is used to re-reading a story and it’s the same every time unless we’re silly, so this is teaching him to let loose and use his imagination. It’s so fun to hear him select what he’d take to get to outer space or how he’s going to escape danger. If you aren't so creative yourself, there are parent-prompts on each page to encourage your child to explain what happens next with the item(s) they have chosen. There is also a penguin hidden on each page (sometimes predominantly posing and and sometimes hidden in the finer details. My son never tires of finding the penguin and laughing about what it’s doing on the different pages. The final page of this book allows your child to choose what a happy ever after ending looks like instead of just ending; it’s great to reinforce the concept that people have different ideas of what happiness looks like.I will definitely buy this as a gift for parents of 3-6 year olds, and I’d also buy other books in this series if available.
