A gripping tale
have read and loved each and every book that Kimberley Chambers has written and I eagerly awaited the release of ‘Backstabber’. I was not to be disappointed.‘Backstabber’ sees the conclusion of the series featuring the Butlers and the Mitchells. It’s quite a while since I read the others in the series but as soon as I picked up ‘Backstabber’ I felt as though I had reunited with old acquaintances. It was as if I had never been away so to speak.I don’t want to go through the plot too much as the synopsis says it all and to add any more would risk giving spoilers away. Needless to say that it is full of intrigue, lies, betrayal, surprises, violence, stomach churning moments, murder, mental health issues with the odd bit of substance abuse added to the mix. The plot does not disappoint and as a good friend of mine, Pam said ‘Backstabber’ is one of those books that you just don’t want to end’. Fans of Kimberley Chambers will not be disappointed with how the story ends.I can’t actually say that I ‘liked’ most of the characters as to be honest the majority scared the crap out of me but they certainly intrigued me enough to read on. I have to say that Vinny Butler Senior really made my skin crawl and was my least favourite character. I couldn’t help but keep my fingers crossed that he got what was coming to him in the end. The characters were really well written and I couldn’t help but read on to see what fate had in store for them. I am a bit of a nosy old bat in that sense.‘Backstabber’ is really well written. Kimberley Chambers writes about a world that she clearly know something about and has experience of. Her writing is gritty, powerful, authentic and addictive. I have a fascination with all things crime and the underworld so I love reading anything crime related be it fiction or non-fiction. This book really hit the ground running and grabbed my attention from the very first word on the very first page. It was as if I was hypnotized. I binge read ‘Backstabber’ and read it in just under 36 hours, which is really good going for me. I just didn’t notice the pages turning and it was as if the pages were turning themselves. ‘Backstabber’ accompanied me everywhere I went and I even begrudged having to put the book down to take my two dogs out for a walk. The only part I didn’t like was having to close the book after I had finished it. To say that I suffered a book hangover after finishing ‘Backstabber’ is an understatement. I actually moped around and couldn’t pick anything else up to read for a while. In short, I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED and ooh LOVED reading ‘Backstabber’. As previously stated a good friend of mine Pam said that ‘Backstabber’ is one of those books that you just don’t want to end’ and I wholeheartedly agree. I would definitely recommend this book to others and I can’t wait to read more by the legend that is Kimberley Chambers. I award this book 5* out of 5* but I would award more stars if I could, as it really is that good.

Back Stabber
This is not a standalone book, there have been 3 previous books in the Mitchell Series and 4 in the Butlers and in this book the author brings them altogether and as you would expect from Ms Chambers havoc ensues. All the old characters are there, except for the one's who have been murdered but they still get a mention. Eddie is going straight but as one would expect with the Butlers and the Mitchells nothing is as it seems and lies deceit and violence ensues. A shocking secret from the past is out which sends the Butlers into crisis and action has to be taken that there will be no going back from. A gripping read but in this book I felt the ending was very rushed and after following the families through 8 books I think the author cannot leave it without us knowing the reaction of the family to the latest events, I felt it ended rather quickly so I certainly hope other reviewers are not right and this is not the last book in the series. The earlier books in the series were outstanding and as gripping as Jessie Keane's Annie Carter Series, Karen Clow's Ruthless Series, and June Hampson's Daisy Lane series, however this last book would have been better had it gone a few more chapters so the readers could have seen the aftermath of the events that unfolded throughout the book.
