The EasyDens is easy to use
The EasyDens by Anton Paar is a digital hydrometer that is designed for home brewersIt is a precision gravity/density testing unit which can accurately read gravity with a tiny 2 ml sample at any point in the brewing process. Alcohol % can also be tracked at any point during fermentation. The EasyDens is also very versatile. It can be used to measure the gravity of beer, wine, cider, and other fermented beverages. It can also be used to measure the density of water, milk, and other liquids. Here are some pros and cons of the EasyDens:Pros:AccurateEasy to useVersatileSmall sample sizeBluetooth connectivityCons:ExpensiveNot as durable as a traditional hydrometerRequires a smartphone or tablet to use the Bluetooth connectivityRequires a yearly subscription if want want to use their apps for all your beers or you have to remove them after your done.Overall, I would recommend the EasyDens to home brewers and small commercial breweries who are looking for a precision gravity/density testing unit. It is accurate, easy to use, and versatile. However, it is also expensive and not as durable as a traditional hydrometer. Does requiring keeping the device super clean.

Extremely Accurate
Well made, sturdy, and extremely accurate. Also exceptionally easy to use, BUT not cheap!

Accuracy exaggerated
Purchased to help with sampling ethanol-water samples and specific gravity of samples during fermentation. This was meant to be a time and material saving device when a TTB certified device was not needed. Our unit was not even close to the accuracy specs claimed by Anton Paar. Our samples were tested side by side with TTB certified NIST traceable and serialized proofing hydrometers, our easydens was only accurate to + / - 3.0% (absolute best result was -2.4%)When we tried to reach out to Anton Paar, there were never technical support available by phone. We did receive generic email responses which never addressed our issue but rather regurgitated the stated product specs and zeroing procedure from the manual, but no explanation or suggestions for how to achieve the + / - 0.5% accuracy listed in the product specs. If you need something that’s gonna give a gestimate this will do it. But it fails in real world testing to come close to its advertised accuracy. We had high hopes for an affordable density meter but looks like this gen 2 easydens is still not quite ready. It would have been. 3 star if Anton Paar had offered adequate product support.

Absolutely fantastic!
This has taken measuring gravity to a new level. No more wondering if the reading is accurate or not. Not only does it take initial readings, it even takes final ones and then calcs the abv for you. No more guesswork. Just plain awesome!

app is a little wonky but its a good device.
I mainly bought this for the convenience of testing my wort/beer with small samples and the app functionality. I brokePros:-Pretty accurate I didn't see any real difference in gravity between this and my more simple floating hydrometer- App saves gravity reading and you can come back to it later when tracking batches-Auto correction for temperatureCons:-limited batch tracking without subscription-app is wonky and detects same device as connected twice-app will intermittently stop detecting the device entirely and requires a phone reboot to detect it and connect again. (troubleshot extensively)Need more info on the issue with the device not connecting? me too :)But seriously I reset the app cleared all app memory and cache and uninstalled and reinstalled. All other bluetooth devices were connecting to the phone no problem and I could even see the mac for the easydens device as available in the bluetooth settings. The only thing that allowed the app to connect was a phone reboot. This happened more than once but a phone/tablet reboot is a reliable workaround if it comes up. This issue has also been reported so maybe they will update the app and fix it.

Do you need it - no. Do you want it - yes.
I love the EasyDens. I use it in homebrewing of beer. I have used hydrometers, refractometers, and the tilt. I never felt I could read the hydrometer nor the refractometer to the accuracy I would like. The tilt is a great indicator but has some challenges to be accurate. The EasyDens was easy to set up and use. I filter all of my samples - just makes it easier, IMO. The APP is great. I just wish it could integrate with other apps like Brewfather. You can get along without the EasyDens but I feel more confident of where I am at with my brews plus I love using just 50ml of my beer for testing. I have several times increased my mash times to reach my pre boil SG based on data from the EasyDens.

It could be cheaper, but if you measure its worth in pints...
I fell in love with doing gravity readings on an Easy Dens at my last professional brewing job. Before that, it was all pro-grade glass hydrometers (also pricey, and very breakable), but more importantly -- they required a larger volume to take a reading on, and we did readings daily throughout fermentation. The Easy Dens lets you get an accurate reading and double-check your temperatures, all with a sample size of a few ml. If you're serious about brewing, it will pay for itself over time, especially when you are doing small batch brewing where every pint counts.

Do not buy
Do not buy, you spend hundreds on purchasing the product just to find out all the apps that use it require a subscription fee to get the device to do all the things it is supposed to, each app, more subscription prices not to mention other devices they want you to purchase along with it. Horrible!
