Pros and cons
Bought this when there were no reviews, and no one answering my questions, so had to take a risk on whether to get this new spontex mop, or their previous model ("spontex full action system"). The official YouTube videos of both are helpful, but leave out a lot of details. I'll try to fill those details in now.The mop head cover is a microfibre with slightly tougher scrubby bits (a bit like a dishwashing sponge). It removed dirt, including sticky food spots, kids paint drips, and baby sick, from the floor very well. It's held on with little 4 elastic loops at the edge and velcro on the flat part of the mop head. It can be washed at 40°. I have not yet found a way to buy additional covers which is very annoying - they really ought to include two in the box. Surely many people will want to be able to wash-one-use-one?On arrival the mop handle needs to be screwed together to assemble, which is fairly simple, then it's ready to be used. While rinsing, the mop clicks first into a lower position, where it get sprayed with the clean water while it spins, then it *automatically* clicks into a higher position to spin dry. This is an important point to me, the user doesn't get to decide when the mop head has had enough rinsing with clean water because it's automatic. The rinsing period is very short and I found myself often fiddling with clicking the mop up and down to get it back on the lower setting for a bit more rinsing. I would've preferred if the mop system gave full control over the rinsing and drying to me.After use, the water in the bottom bucket is dirty and of course the clean water in the top is not, so it seems to be working. I am not sure if I think it cleans the mop head *sufficiently* at each rinsing, but the dirty water indicates it is washing some dirt off at least. The spinning system works excellently for drying the mop out. I have a wooden floor (engineered wood, with UV hardened oil on the top layer) and did not have any concerns it was getting too wet.A long term concern. The pumpy bit of the handle clicks into the top of the handle, presumably so it's out of the way while mopping the floor (the instructions are very limited, so one has to guess). I suspect those plastic clips will fatigue and fail in time with such frequent use - they do not look terribly robust to me. However the mop is quite usable without clicking that part to the top so maybe it doesn't matter. The folding up part is very effective at allowing mopping right into the corners. And it currently lays properly flat against the floor at other times. Again since this feature relies on some plastic flexing, I wonder how it will age, how quickly the material will fatigue, and if it will not lay flat on the floor after some time. The bucket looks larger and bulkier than I expected from the pictures/video/description, so check measurements if you have space constraints. The material is mostly plastic, with a metal tubing for the mop handle. I prefer to avoid introducing new plastic to the house, which is currently difficult with mops. I hope this one has been designed to at least last a long time. Reusability for other purposes is limited. The special design of the bucket means it is really only useful with this mop. When one or other eventually fails, pretty much the whole thing will need to be binned and replaced - not ideal. However this mop could be a good choice for someone concerned with reducing their water use, because I was able to mop a surprisingly large area with only one inner bucket of water.Overall I appreciate spontex's attempts to innovate with this mop. I wanted to love it to the extent I love my cordless vacuum, which truly is a revolution in dry floor cleaning. This mop works adequately, but somewhat falls short of being the "aqua revolution" of its name.Bought for £39.99 and see it's reduced to £25.05 as I write this review (grrr). A truly revolutionary mop with two covers would be worth the former. This probably isn't.[Edit: Spontex responded to my enquiry about extra mop head covers a little while ago. They said they intend to make them available for sale in the future, but they are not available yet because this is a new product. I feel quite irritated by this response, because they seem to recognise the need for them and are clearly able to manufacture the covers already, but have still not made them available to early adopters of their product. A little more thoughtfulness might have led early adopters to become advocates for their new system. As it is, I feel more like I paid a premium to become a guinea pig.][Edit - 25 December 2018 - I now have replacement mop heads!!!]
