I was very happy to see the reel already had all of the lines set up. For a novice it is a bit daunting when you have to tie the backing to the fly line and to the leader. Very happy to see this was all done for me. All you really need to do is tie your fly. The case is awesome, it fits everything you need for the rod and you can keep the reel attached and it offers solid protection.I wasn't sure what the quality would be like judging by the photos, but in person you can see the quality and detail so much better. I chose to go with the 5wt as I doubt I would make use of the 8wt. I think the 5wt is a better all around rod for the lakes and streams near me. The rod is very durable and light. Most importantly the rod is very well balanced, I'd say perfectly balanced since it feels like you are holding nothing in your hand. For those who are particular about their drag, there is a turn dial drag adjuster on the reel, it has a smooth action and makes adjusting drag very easy.You do get a free reel key chain which you can reel and feels very well made. I have been using it since I got it, it is nice they added this. So far I am loving the Maxcatch brand.

I ordered 2 of the 8 weights for a fishing trip on the Kenai River to catch sockeye. One of the reels needed some lube but other than that they performed good while we were fishing for salmon. The ability to break down the rods into the case made things very easy for the airport and traveling. This isn’t a high end item but it’s perfect for someone who doesn’t want to break the bank for a fishing trip. Definitely a great value for the price.

I originally gave a negative review after receiving a reel of the wrong size. I ordered the Maxcatch Extreme 9' #6 fly rod with its companion 5/6 reel, but got the 3/4 reel instead. Make sure you check your shipment.Updated review: I received the a replacement very quickly. The package arrived in great shape, and best of all, I received the right reel this time. This is the first time I ordered a rod through Amazon and was a bit leery about damaged packaging. Not a problem here - the box came to my door without any damage. On top of that, the rod/reel and other items were safe inside a really sturdy case. I took a close look at the rod and found no issue. I like the dark green color. The rod is light and feels right in my hand and balances well with the reel it comes with. The reel makes a small sound as I crank it around, but otherwise it spins smoothly. It's made of metal (aluminum) yet light. I tested the drag - I can dial in the drag strength and think it will be more than sufficient for a 6-wt rod. I really like the case. It's sturdy and protective. I could probably fit another small spinning rod (probably a 2-piece 5') in this case. The starter set of flies is ok. You will eventually want to get your own anyway. The fly box is nice though, it fits nicely in the outside pocket of the case. The kit comes with the line tool and a lanyard - useful. And the hat is adjustable and actually fits my big head.I am looking forward to taking this rod to the water. I will continue to update the review after having used the Maxcatch combo for a few times.

Bought this for a rough and ready trip in the backwoods. Very good setup for a beginner. Rod is balanced good, decent assortment of flys. Have caught several hundred fish on this setup with no issues.

I did all the research, took a few rods out for a test drive and had absolutely loved the Eco Lift starter combo, but balked at the price.Based on a number of reviews and articles I read, I took a gamble on this Maxcatch combo and have NOT been disappointed.The accessories it comes with are great and good for getting started right out the gate - but the really win is the rod itself. Very well balanced, light, flexible, and easy to work. I've spent 4 months fishing with it and it continues to feel great, casts easy, and is simply a lot of fun.My father in law is a VETERAN fly fisherman and was quite impressed with this combo when he borrowed it, so it's not just my novice opinion here.Only critique is that the reel sometimes struggles to seat in the cradle, and then once seated can be difficult to unseat. I solve for this by leaving the reel and base section of the rod assembled.Pick it up, take it for a spin. You'll be glad you did.

I have 4 fly setups that are much heavier and much more expensive for salt and bass. I wanted something light and cheap to leave in the truck to fish small ponds for bluegill and the occasional small large mouth on my way home from work. I figured what the heck, this combo costs 1/10th of my 7wt setup. I am honestly super impressed. I figured with the price I was going to get something super flimsy and low quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. Even the line is good. Rod has a nice fast action great finish surprisingly light, and although the reel isn’t the best looking, it does what it needs to do on a 3 wt, which is hold the line. The carry case seems to be made well, and the extra fly box and storage on the carry case makes keeping this setup under the seat of my truck a breeze. For bluegill and crappie this thing has taken the place of my TFO 5wt. Blue gill the size of your hand feels like fighting a 7lb bass on a bait caster. Oh and the free hat they threw in was a nice bonus as well. Thanks yall, I’ll spread the word to my buddies.

Great rod and reel in my opinion. Only been fly fishing for a few yrs, and to find a decent priced 8wt, that’s made good and works well was awesome. I’ve had this for about a yr and half now and I’ve put it through everything. Stays in my truck most of the time cause I never know when I feel like fishing and it still works great! Totally recommend!
