Flawless combo lock, robust and works just like you want it to
Works flawlessly. Big numbers, easy to turn, easy to operate. Very high security from what I can tell so far. If you're trying to secure something that's really worth securing, go with this lock. Note that another Squire Lock model number SS50C didn't work for me at all. But this one is working very well.

Not As Tough As It Looks?
It must be about 4 years since I bought this kind of Squire Lock. So it is possible that they have improved them since then. What I post below first refers to the lock I bought some years ago. I had rated that lock as 3 stars; I have rated the new one 5 stars based on exceptional customer service. PART 1: THE FIRST, OLDER LOCKS: This lock looks like it is as strong as a tank. But actually it is quite weak. WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT IT: By having 5 dials, it is harder to guess the combination. The shank is harder to get at with a bolt cutter by its design. This lock must be rare in the USA, so thieves may not be so familiar with it. The lock will not open up unless the 5 dials are exactly placed in line. A person unfamiliar with the lock might have the correct combination, but unable to open it because the alignment was not exact. Such a person might not realize why he could not open it. Likewise, the manner of opening it is different from any other lock I ever used. After you get the combination exactly in line, you pull out the unlock button (bottom right in the lock's picture at the right). When YOU pull out the unlock button, the shank springs slightly open, UNLESS something is pressing on the shank. If something is pressing sideways on that shank, like the chain being tight against the shank, or the shank being tight against a piece of metal, then the shank does NOT spring open (a little). Then the lock is technically unlocked, but neither the lock nor the operator knows it! When the shank springs open, it only opens a little, so that the lock is not actually opened (with the center of the shank no longer covering the gap). To get it actually open, after the shank springs sideways (a little), you have to pull it open with your fingers by grasping that very small & smooth end of the shank. If the shank is loose on its chain, the lock is not corroded at all, there is no oil on the end of the shank, & your fingers can put friction on the shank as to press it between thumb & finger to squeeze it as you pull sideways, it comes open reasonably easy. GOOD & BAD AT SAME TIME: It is good because it can be difficult to open for a thief; but bad because you yourself may have trouble opening it. You have to get the shank to slide sideways to get it open. That shank only protrudes a little out of the lock at the (left) end. The shank end is rounded & smooth -- no groove into which to put the fingers, nothing rough to give friction to the fingers. Thus particularly if something is pressing sideways vs the shank, it will not spontaneously jump open (a little). It can be hard to grasp that little shank end & pull it, if you don't have a handy vicegrip! On one of my locks, I ground the end of the shank to make it rough and give me something to grasp. This method of opening can be frustrating in the cold or when the shank does not spring open (a little). WHAT IS BAD ABOUT IT: WEAKNESS I bought 4 locks just like this a few years ago. But then one day I dropped one about 4 feet onto concrete. The shank shot completely out of the lock! I was able to pick up the shank & push it back in, but since then I have not been able to get it to lock. I dropped another one the same way. This one landed on its unlock button, which you can see at the lower right of the little picture of the lock visible on the right upper screen (now). The metal shaft holding that button bent to the side. However, it still works. A 3rd lock ended up with the unlock button broken off -- I think from a similar fall. I am going to try JB Weld to put the unlock button back on & see if that works at all. These experiences indicate to me that you could probably open this lock just by banging on it with a hammer (not tried). As the Japanese say, "This lock is almost good." PART 2: REVISED: NEW LOCK, 5 STARS NOW! I complained to Squire as to how 3 of 4 locks I had bought went bad as not being able to stand a 4 foot drop onto concrete. I was amazed at their customer service. I live in the USA; they are in England. They told me that since I lived in the USA, they would not ask me to return the locks; but they would just send me 3 replacement locks!!! After all this time! I was also advised that the combination dial locks were not as strong as the key variety of locks. Very quickly I got my 3 locks at no charge, not even for postage! The old locks look like the one pictured here. The new ones look a little different & are designed a little different. Superficially the lock release knob is now black instead of silver colored. The mechanism for holding the shank locked is different now. So the new one might not spit out the shank on impact as one of the first models did. I am rating it 5 stars based on customer service, not having yet put these in action. I don't know what the seller on Amazon is selling; I am assuming with the 5 Stars that they are no longer selling the exact model as pictured, but the new one, the one with a black release button, though the model number is apparently the same. My new locks have still not been put into service, so if they same problem happens again, I would have to reduce the 5 Star rating. But of course now I should be careful not to drop them on concrete. I hope that they have upgraded the strength of the metal stem which is part of the release button (so if it breaks off, you have no release button).

Bon cadenas pour extérieur
Utilisation sur barrière en forêt. Changement de combinaison aisé, forme rendant difficile son ouverture sans la combinaison. Un seul regret : écartement un peu juste pour fermer sur une grosse chaine.

Viel Geld fuer nichts.

aperto in 30 secondi

Secure and strong
Incredible product which enables proper security. This is my fourth one. The plastic casing does not last but the lock itself is hard wearing.

Great
This is not your average padlock. I bought it to use on a motorcycle chain I bought but unfortunately the bloody link's on the chain are too big (19mm) for the opening. If you buy this for the same reason I did and your chain links are over 14-16 mm then I think you may struggle. So anyway now my shed has the best padlock on the street. I highly recommend this product, it may be a little expensive but imo definitely worth it.
