Definitely refer to the chart for sizing. My daughter is 3.5, tall for her age, and is in the Large which fits her perfect. They do shrink up a bit but still fit her perfect. She is doing really well with potty training, so as far as absorbancy these are not meant to hold what a diaper would. They definitely help to minimize the mess however from accidents. The couple accidents she has had required her pants to be changed once, the other time it did not leak through to her pants. So I consider that a win :) Her daycare also commented on how much they liked these as opposed to the normal thin underwear.
