Needs More, not well designed
Cute idea but the book needs more! A lot of previous reviews already gave you an idea of the styles that are in the book but what is important to know is the descriptions of recreating is not easy for a beginner. You have to be well practiced in some of these styles ahead of time. Also if you are one for design and how these things are layer out you won't care forint. My sister is a publication designer so I have an eye for those things... The vintage then current looks just look silly and the ones used are a bit out of place. It helped me get ideas but then I went else where to build on those and figure how to really do the styles.

From everyday fabulous to showstopping glam
I adore this book. I have been figuring out my own methods for retro hair for so long now, because so many books and websites make the process so complicated that I could never style my hair to their specifications in a decent amount of time. I saw this book and I knew I had to get it. The directions are straight forward, and wonderfully illustrated. The tools required for most of the looks are things that most people with hair already keep around the house. A couple of styles do require something like a bonnet dryer or pincurl clips, which I suppose less people keep on hand, but they're very easy to procure at any rate.I tried almost every style in the text, and always with great success...and plenty of compliments. The styles range from very simple, everyday retro styles (ponytails and simple body waves), to ultra glamorous do's like victory rolls, pincurls and polished beehives. There are variations on many of the styles, and so many useful tips that everyone can feel like a pro!

Nice book, but not for the beginner!
I bought this because I was interested in learning how to style my hair in a retro style. I had already purchased Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques and found it EXTREMELY helpful. I was looking for this to piggyback on the first book and perhaps give me more pictures of the various styles. The book itself is physically pretty with a fabric hardcover and full color images. I like how each hairstyle is introduced with pictures of the "silver screen" stars that made the style famous, as well as a picture of a modern celebrity who utilizes the style. Here's a breakdown of the included styles & their era:*20s*Finger Waves & Pin Curls*40s*Forties Waves (The Peek-a-boo)Victory RollsThe Poodle*50s*Fringe Roll (The VV)Fifties Set (The Marilyn)Quiffs (The Pompadour)*60s*Beehive (The Joan)Beehive (The Brigitte)Bouffant (The Jackie O)BarbarellaEach style has many photographs and descriptions.A criticism I would make is that if you have no experience styling your hair, this may be a little tough, even with all the pictures. For example, some styles start out by saying, "Prepare your hair, creating volume using heated rollers..." and then immediately launch into the steps of the style. If I didn't see the pictures of how to wet or dry set my hair to prepare it for a vintage hairstyle in the first book, I would have already been lost. I've never used a roller or a curling iron in my life. I barely use a blowdryer. So be aware that this book assumes you have some basics. The last section has a bit about wearing scarves in your hair. It's not terribly descriptive, but it provides at least one picture of each style.Overall, if you have some basic hairstyling knowledge, this is a great stand-alone book on retro hairstyling. Personally, I recommend starting with Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques .

I like this book
If nothing else this book is wonderful simply as a coffee table book and conversation starter. I love the look and feel of it. The cover of the book is textured and it gives it an almost clothlike feel. The pictures in the book are nice and it contains some gorgeous vintage shots of bombshells and starlets, and also pictures of current day women in vintage hairstyles. Personally I wish the book had a little more element of instruction. I have virtually no experience with hairstyling and I need LOTS of help in understanding the technique. If you are more advanced with beauty and hair techniques then this book might be more up your alley. Still, I like the book overall and it has given me inspiriation and at least some foundation to start trying to recreate retro looks.

Great vintage hair book
Like everything hair and makeup related, nothing you can't dig for online. However this is so convenient to have in one place. There are some great hair styles in the book for both short and long hair. I get my money's worth when I need to style my hair for dances, interviews, special dinners, Model UN debates, speeches, or any other special event. The pictures are good and the instructions are fairly clear.

Beautiful Book!
I just got this in the mail and have yet to try the looks on for size, but the aesthetics of this book is just amazing. It's cloth-bound, and styled beautifully. It would make for a great coffee table book whether or not I can actually master any of the skills therein. I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to hair and makeup, so I'm hoping that this book will be an excellent tutor for me!

hairdo
A good read and directions that one can follow. Be aware that you need lots of nice hair to do most of the styles, but this would be a book to take to the hairdresser to copy a style. Some styles have to have the right cut, others could be done at home with long hair. Fun to look at and use for that special occasion.

Limited content
Personally I found this book had not much content.Fine if you looking for brief representations of hair styles over a few varied periods /eras.For me. .I was hoping for Vintage meaning 1940s/1950s... Whereas more modern styling were shown also.
