Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Toby Jones (The Hunger Games) strike comedic gold in this critically adored series about two oddballs scouring the English countryside for treasure. If only their characters, Andy and Lance, could be so fortunate. These amateur metal detectorists have an unhealthy fixation on uncovering a fabled trove of buried Saxon loot. Unfortunately, the world of high-stakes metal detecting is surprisingly turbulent, as are their personal lives. Andy's girlfriend, Becky (Rachael Stirling, The Bletchley Circle), is none too pleased about the amount of time he sinks into his fruitless hobby, and even less so when a female colleague enters the equation. Lance, meanwhile, is still hopelessly in love with his ex-wife-and finds several embarrassing ways to show it. But behind the most excruciating moments lies a winning combination of warmth, eccentricity, and humanity that makes this comedy "indispensable viewing" (The Guardian, UK) and "one of the loveliest, most inventive things on TV all year" (The Daily Mail, UK).

Something Special
My husband always chooses an action, shoot ‘em up, movie, so I was wondering if he would even watch Detectorists with me. He did. We both couldn’t wait for each next episode to start. We were watching a Netflix disc I had requested and it would take several days to receive the next one. We couldn’t stream it from anywhere, not even Netflix. So, we quickly went to Amazon to simply buy the whole show. I even bought another set for a dear friend. Needless to say, we loved Detectorists. The theme song is lovely, too. It seems you have to be a “detectorist” to even FIND the series. (Thank you, Amazon.). Understated charm. Very British. Very funny.

Great to sit back and enjoy....
This is what I love about British comedy/satire...you have to watch, sit back, listen and then just enjoy. Two average men (who could be me) with intelligent women in their lives.

An absolute delight
A friend recommended this series to me. I had heard nothing of it before then. I totally love the characters, the portrayal of genuine friendship, and the subtle humor and intelligence in the dialogue. Mackenzie Crook is a tour de force as the writer, director, and actor. I am beside myself with happiness after hearing that the filming of Season 3 will begin this summer. Oh, I also love the theme song by Johnny Flynn and intend to buy some of his music. I see that he will play a young Albert Einstein in the National Geographic Genius series. There's cause for intrigue.

The characters are like real life people instead of the usual sitcom characters ...
After seeing Mackenzie Crook in Game of Thrones I wanted to see him in something else and settled on this show. It's not really the kind of show that makes you laugh but it grows on you so much that you can't wait to see the next episode. The characters are like real life people instead of the usual sitcom characters who go for a laugh every 15 seconds. What is impressive is that Crook wrote and directed every episode himself as well as play the main character. The best British comedy series I've seen in years and I've seen a lot of them.

irresistibly charming show, set in fictional British town
This show is irresistibly charming. My husband and I both love it. We had gotten burned out on all the crime shows and decided to give this British show a try. It's considered a comedy, but there's plenty of drama in the characters' lives. The characters are ordinary enough to be plausible yet quirky enough to be fascinating. It's so well written and performed that I feel like the characters are my neighbors. It's written such that the funniness flows naturally from the humanness of the characters. The show won a BAFTA award at British Academy Television Awards. We've already ordered Season 2.

Fun Show, Lots of Very Cool Subtle Touches!
Great, gentle show! Lots of very cool and subtle touches included. I've probably watched all three seasons four or five times now, and I still enjoy watching it! It's just a joy to watch! Excellent way to de-stress when life gets to be too much!

A Hobby or a Way of Life?
The product was received in perfect condition. The actors are excellent. I found it funny, tragic, sad, pathetic, and very revealing. I always thought that if these Detectorists actually had clubs, it would prove very competitive let alone very frustrating. The ending was sweet on all levels. Yes, it was funny what they went through, but so real in the human emotions involved in all segments. I had no idea how complicated it was to be a Detectorist!

I Couldn't Stop Watching....
I found this gem while searching for UK metal detecting videos. I live here in the states and have longed to detect in the UK. This series has such a way about it. It's funny, at times it's heartwarming and tender and feels so genuine. It's perfectly cast. I wouldn't change a character. I'm very happy this evening because it has just been released here in the states and my copy arrives tomorrow! Hopefully, my wife will sit down and watch with me. Then, just maybe she will understand why I enjoy digging up ring pulls (and the occasional civil war relic)!

I love this show!
This is such a great, quirky little British comedy. Everyone's kinda weird looking. Nothing like the sanitized predictable stuff you find on American network television.

A joy to watch and listen to
A sweet, quiet series about two guys talking archeological dreams of finding a Saxon burial ship whist scanning the beautiful English countryside with metal detectors. The scenery and the music are wonderful. Not for those who like slapstick comedy.

Don't need too many brain cells for this show!
Doesn't take much to figure out the plot - but you have to pay attention otherwise you miss the whole show. Very odd. Don't think I would rush out to purchase a second season.
