Great base for stew or on its own. Wildly overpriced. For folks with food allergies, it’s a good alternative to mainstream soups that always have something they don’t need to have in them.

First Impressions:Compact box. This was the first time I’d seen soup boxed this way. Normally I’m used to cans. Turns out a LOT of soup is packaged like this. I like it better.Quality:The soup smelled amazing and the taste was really good. Beats vegetable Campbell’s by a mile.Product Overview:For the most part, prepackaged veggie soup is what it is. A bunch of vegetables swimming around in liquid for who knows how long. They’re going to be super soft and mushy most of the time. The questions then have to surround taste, satiation and value.Taste: Good eatin’. It is delicious. I don’t need any extra seasonings or additives for flavor. The soup stands on its own. I like the reduced sodium variety because nothing is worse than the hidden salt in prepackaged food.Satiation: First, I’m huge so I use the whole box for a sitting and maybe a second if it’s one of those days. The potatoes go a long way to helping you feel satisfied but if you just want to use one box then you can add a salad, a sandwich or some good crackers.Value: This is a big subjective because I am willing to pay more for high quality stuff. Problem is that one box is more than $3. It’s $3.19 or so to be more precise. That’s a LOT for the miniscule amount of calories in a veggie based soup for most people. Thankfully I found this soup in my local Supermarket for the discontinued price of $1.50. Of course I bought them all.Major Concern: Price is a bit of an issue for this low calorie product that will ultimately require you to add more food to the meal. The number of carbs in one box is 22g. I would like to see two or three times as much.Final Thoughts:I like what Dr. McDougall has to say on the subject of health and I believe his teachings to be scientifically correct. My impressions of the product are positive overall but I think the lack of calories flies in the face of that science. If the price wasn't so much I'd give it 4 starts. If you can find this at a lower cost (about half) I would recommend it.

I love tomato soup - it's my favorite fall/winter meal. This soup was very easy to prepare, just put in a bowl and microwave or heat up on the stove top. I tried it both ways and the soup tasted the same either way to me. It was a little on the sweet side with only a few tomato bits in it which was disappointing, but I liked it other than that. I thought if I added something more to make it a bit more hearty and perhaps add a sandwich it would make a nice meal, but on it's own I would say it's not filling enough, unless one eats a lot of crackers and doesn't mind doing so.I like a creamy soup too, and since the maker recommends nothing be added, it doesn't have that creamy taste you can get from tomato soups by adding milk or cream. I didn't try adding to it yet.I like that it is natural soup which is better than what is canned in the grocery store so I will buy it again. If it had more chunks of tomatos I would have given it a 5, but since it says it has chunky tomatos, it I rated it accordingly. If you don't mind a little sweet taste, this is a great soup but it you prefer the standard tasting tomato soup that has more salt in it, you may not like it as much. As for me, I will purchase again because it is easy to fix, I can take it camping without adding much and it is tasty to me. I can offset the sweet taste easily and add something to go with it to make it a filling meal. I'd recommend this one even with what I have written. I've liked most of Dr. McDougalls's soups, this is not my favorite but it is good. Happy eating!

Tastes like punishment! haha...for all the times I overate. With every disgusting bite...I just imagined the juiciest, most tastiest food and thought...you know what...I highly took advantage of that! and now THIS is what I get! The boxes are great quality and came quick via amazon. I have purchased McDougall items before in the past, my favorite was the:1) Tortilla soup2) Pad Thai Soup3) Minestrone SoupI used to keep them on hand for very light dinners or snacks. It seemed like they altered the recipe for the Tortilla one...and it never quite tasted as good.Anyhow, I decided to give these a try...I ran into them somehow shopping on Amazon for healthy products as I am trying to lose about 100+ pounds. I poured half of it into a bowl, microwaved it...and it just tasted awful. Im giving it:1 Star because the Mcdougall programs are healthy and are worth looking into...and another1 Star because I will somehow manage to finish the boxes I ordered so they don't go to waste.It will definitely keep my portions under control as I think I would only be able to stomach about half a cup to a cup...with the help of a salt free seasoning.All and all --- I would not order again.I would highly prefer recommending this website:http://caloriecount.about.com/Hopefully it doesn't it block it out...to rate certain foods...for instance if you type in "soup" it will give you grades of popular soups...I have been ordering the soups at a grade level of "A"...(a lot of progresso soups get wonderful ratings, I am going to go with those soups) and have been trying them out. I will be leaving reviews for certain soup or health products over the next few weeks/months.
