Modern Family Season 7

Life-saver
Modern Family once saved my life. It was 2011 and I was in a dark place. A very dark and unforgiving place. I was in a tail-spin and I felt I had few options left. One night I received this notification about a relatively new streaming service that streamed television shows instead of movies. They had an offer of 2-weeks free; after which the two-weeks expired, you start paying month-to-month. My time was running out so I figured, why not? I created a login, password and went through a somewhat grueling process of selecting what types of television shows I like. Comedy, drama, sci-fi, etc. and the subcategories that fall underneath each. Several pages of this. I felt like I was being cross-examined and was just about to give up when it finally gave way to the main page. There was this show. This show that had 2 full seasons under their belt and were currently in the midst of their 3rd season. I'd never heard of it before. I mean, Modern Family? That just doesn't sound like something I would like. But it was insanely well-rated so again, I figured why not? I'm all about giving things a shot now that time was fleeting. So I played the first episode of season 3: Dude Ranch. I had no idea who any of the characters were, their back stories, who was related to whom and married and whatnot.Turns out it didn't matter because I was in stitches in the first few minutes of the episode. I laughed so hard I was crying, and crying for once that didn't involve soul-crushing sadness. I laughed so hard I had to re-watch the episode because I missed so much. And then laughed even harder at the parts I missed. Then I went on to episode 2, then 3, then 4 and stopped because that's all the episodes that were available at the time. They hadn't released any new episodes because ABC hadn't released them. I knew I was hooked. Hook, line and sinker. I needed more. 4 episodes of a show I never heard of and they got me.Without thinking of the cost, I ran to my local Target and bought the first two seasons of Modern Family. I was broke and unemployed and was saving the money for a couple decent meals but this was more important. I know I can't eat a DVD. DVD do not give me sustenance. But this gave me something that food couldn't and I had to hold onto that feeling for as long as I could. I could survive on cheap pizzas and ramen for a few weeks anyhow.I binge-watched the first two seasons in two days. Then put back the first disc of the first season and started all over again. And as the seasons were released on DVD, I bought them the day they would come out. As luck would have it, Modern Family was almost always released sometime around my birthday so I bought them as a pseudo-birthday gift to myself. Modern Family is now on Season 9; I am waiting for Season 8 to come out so I can binge watch that too.Modern Family brought laughter back into my life. Yeah, this may seem corny but I don't care. This is my life we're talking about. Modern Family gave back to me a purpose and that is to laugh and make other laugh. Nothing else in my life had such a profound effect on me as Modern Family has. I am not Bill Murray and not a patron eating french fries. This really happened. Season 9 is out now and I am still here. So to the producers and everyone involved in making Modern Family, thank you. Thank you for saving my life.

The episodes in this season have been very good so far and I expect that will continue as usual. There is a huge difference in the way Luke looks. He has shot up in height and is looking very much the teenager. This can suddenly happen to boys and did happen to him. The Phil & Claire family remains the most interesting one for me. Phil, of course, always messes up in some very Phil way. This week he was convinced some guy on the street had scammed him and the guy turned out to be the doctor who delivered Luke. It was hard digging himself out of that hole. But the week before he was hatching ducklings and engaged in a duck habitat, which was even more like him. Claire is a disaster in a different way. This week she made just about every mistake at work she could and, of course, it was the bring your daughter to work day. Alex is in college but we see just as much of her.The gay couple are the same as always and their young daughter is the one who is usually the most sensible and pragmatic of this family threesome. The two men are always going off the rails with something. Cam scheming to get Mitch back in harness as a lawyer was very funny. Jay and Gloria have Manny and Joe as the sons. Joe just got old enough to use as a character whereas Manny is about the same as always. Jay and Gloria are best when they are acting with other family members. When they get caught up in problems between themselves it just isn't as funny.

consistently funny
When I stumble onto a show that makes me laugh, I dig into it further. I like getting full seasons on DVD so I can control what/when/etc. I watch - as much or as little as I want, no commercials, no internet or cable outages to worry about. After seeing just one early episode of 'Modern Family' I was hooked. The Dunphys crack me up, especially Phil, who is hysterical. Every season of this show makes me laugh and also provides some nice insight into the human condition and a good look inside the complex interactions of a multi-generational family. This show does it right, consistently, with outrageous deadpan humor and subtle running gags.

Laughing all the way
It took me a few shows to realize how much I loved these characters. By the time I tuned into them and how extremely funny they are I had missed a few seasons. Now, it's a great binge watch catching up on the old seasons before I watch the current season. Seriously, some hysterical personality stuff.Even though I do not come from a severely fractured family background this show givess me hilarious insight into how a true supportive, and accepting family could look and laughing all the way.

Review of physical item, not season
DVD came in perfect condition and for a good price. Last two pictures are of a double sided insert that came in the case!

Layers
One of the few shows that gets funnier by the season. I like the way the storylines not only continue through multiple seasons, progressing as it would in real life, with a few 'exaggerations' (s7 ep1: how did Andy gain that much weight that quickly?). Just like will all great shows, the peeling of layers from each character as they evolve is a crucial part to its vitality, and Modern Family may be (in my opinion) one of the lucky ones to grow old, and still be talked about years after the series finale.

My favorite comedy series
Loads of laughs to be had and lesson to be learned. Phil and Claire learn to adjust to having kids leave the nest while Cam and Mitch shoulder money problems and raising Lilly and more. This time the DVD case wasn't flimsy. So very happy about that.

good show
I love modern family! Its a great show that can satisfy all age groups! They don't show the full series on hulu or Netflix, so purchasing on amazon was one of the only ways to watch it!
