Belknap's Waterproof Desolation River Guide-All New Edition

If you are planning a private or commercial trip through Desolation canyon, this is an essential guide. Our copy weathered the heat, sand, and water. It was passed around the campfire nightly to be enjoyed by everyone on the trip. The photos and stories provided great background to what we saw along the river. After the trip it is the best souvenir.

Good map, we took this as well as another with us. This one had better orientation to the topo, not as much information on potential camp sites, but loads of extra information about the trip. You can definately use this to run the Desolation and Grey canyons. Was waterproof. My only complaint is that the map is not oriented to the direction you are travelling so you have to hold the map upside down to match the actual trip. You can transpose, but I just found it easier to trun it upside down. Good map, can easily track you location.

Belknap's guidebooks are thick on everything but the maps. So if your looking for every bit of info about the river and could care less about a great map then this is good. I like a large, easy to read, topo map in my guidebook. I don't need it for a geology lesson, or another book telling me what animals I will see. The biggest drawback is that there is no information about how to run a rapid. RiverMaps is great too in this area.
