Definitely an upgrade for me
so far so good. the shipping is pretty good considering coming from China (I did pay for expedited shipping). This grinder is night and day better from my older Breville Smart Grinder Pro. The consistency is much better. The static seems more even though I added a spray of water prior to grinding. The pumping to get all grinds out is awkward at the moment, so I will give it more time for workflow. The retention is definitely not close to zero from the initial few usages. It might change after more grinds. The build seems very solid and heavy. I purchased this instead of Sette 270 due to the reported build quality issue. I am very satisfied with this purchase so far on the initial impression and usages.update:The retention is stuck around the o-ring on the upper burr. One owner suggested upgrading the de-clumper. But my version is pretty new (carbon fiber color) which supposed to have it upgraded already according to the description when I purchased. I will use it more and observe the behavior after breaking in more.update #2:It is indeed the declumper per suggested. My version does have the upgraded clump crusher where there's only 1 layer. What I ended up doing is to cut few holes to destroy the semi vacuum seal within the burr. The coffee grounds do come out a lot freely now. But the down side is the static. Adding few sprays of water prior to grinding minimized the static. It does solve the retention issue 99% which is a real surprise to me. The other observation I had after de-clumper mod is the grind size. I used to grind at around 19 for espresso. But after the mod (few holes on the crusher), I had to grind down to around 15. This means the original de-clumper causes lots of regrinding, not just a little. Maybe this was the original design, but it seems weird to me. Nonetheless, I solved the retention issue by cutting few holes on the original silicon clump crusher.

the perfect home grinder?
I almost spent a LOT more on a grinder, then I watched teardown videos of the expensive grinders I was considering, and saw their (failing) plastic gears and very cheap small motors. At that point it was clearly evident this was by comparison, built like a very serviceable tank. James Hoffman did a review of the grinder, and the version I received had the declumping baffle as well as fonts upgraded. It has a common 65mm burr size, so it can be easily upgraded to better burrs, but the stock set is pretty darn good. It does throw some bean chaff, but I've not found that to be too big a problem, and in some ways a benefit. Using the bellows, retention has been .1 or .2 grams at most. It'll easily grind coffee for drip, french press, v60, aeropress, moka, and espresso. On the one I received, it was very easy to align the burrs precisely, and it also has very good fine grind control for espresso. I typically grind such in the range of 15 - 25, and going finer turns the beans to dust and just creates your typical too fine issues. I'm making the best espresso I ever have, and am certainly happy with the purchase.
