Q: How much dye would be needed for a pair of jeans?

The amount of dye needed would depend on the size of the pot or pail that you will be using to dye the jeans in. Each bag of dye/salt paste will make 3 quarts of dye water. The jeans must be totally submerged in the dye water for them to become a uniform color. If you are going to be using a large pot or pail I would suggest two bags of dye/salt past to make 6 quarts of dye water to make certain that the jeans are fully submerged.

Yes.... I soaked it in a tub first.... Then poured into my machine.

Yes, Rit fabric dye works very well on all natural fibers such as cotton and wool.
