Does the trick, however for the premium price, quality was subpar.
Hello,I've researched every possible stand out there available for the iPad 3. I realize this is for the iPad 2 but I contacted K&M and they stated this would fit (almost everything does, the 1mm difference doesn't account for much).I have a brand new iPad 3 and I use it for many purposes. I love to take care of my things just like most of you and although there were stands out there that were as cheap as $29 (the iPad mount and stand included), it was clear that those cheaper solutions were more dangerous with the foam edges coming off, or foam adapters that were added after the release of the iPad 2 (instead of creating an appropriate stand). I've looked at stands by many companies as I'm sure you have, and I was willing to pay a premium for this stand even though it didn't include the microphone stand. I wanted the best for my 32GB white 3rd Generation iPad, and this looked like the solution. Not many video reviews out there, maybe I'll make one, but I hope this helps you as the review I was looking for.1.) This does hold the iPad 3 securely. And it gets 3 stars for that. There are actually 5 sides to this stand if you are looking at the K&M logo at the front. Here is how it breaks down. The bottom two have clips that stick out, pretty secure when this is on the bottom. The top also has a clip, and is a bit more flexible but still seems secure. Even though it seems secure, I can understand how the other person complained, he kind of had the stand "upside down", but really it is not his fault, I'll explain why in a sec. The other two sides - left, and right, do not have clips, and are actually just regular sides that prevent the iPad from slipping out. So when the stand is rotated to portrait mode, the ipad is only clipped in on the sides and not the top and bottom. This still seems somewhat secure. Here are some of the small issues, the iPad fits with the top and bottom clamp, but the sides there is a little bit of "play", meaning both sides don't actually secure the iPad or touch it, an over estimation of space. Also there is no padding whatsoever, the plastic is hard and I was a bit concerned after I took it out of the box because it seems the fabrication (sharp plastic unfiled mold) could possibly scratch the iPad over time. Also the K&M logo was mounted off center. I know this isn't a huge issue for some, but when I pay for quality, can we at least ensure that the logo is mounted properly? It honestly looks like a defect. :)The logo or back part never touches the iPad, so all of the weight and cushioning is actually on the hard plastic clips or hard plastic non-clipped sides. (This is an issue when the iPad is stand is upside down, the single clip on the bottom, is not as secure as having two clips). Depending on the position of the stand sometimes you have to use it upside down due to lack of movement options.2.) Limitations to adjustments. Now I was expecting some limitation of course and willing to deal with this. But I didn't expect this much limitation! :) Now it is acceptable but let me explain.a.) Are you aware that you can rotate this from portrait to landscape? Yes, but did you know it is only 90 degrees? Meaning from landscape you can only rotate it ONE direction (Clockwise 90 degrees) into portait, and the you can rotate it ONE direction (Counter Clockwise 90 degrees) back to landscape. This means that when using a horizontal microphone arm you have to have it perpendicular to the floor if you are using it from the side of the arm (for example when laying in bed or in a lazy boy and the bar is coming across the bed. The bar must (well should) be perpendicular to the floor to be able to have the proper landscape and portrait mode or landscape and portait will not be able to reach past the 90 degree rotation to view it parallel to the floor/bed.-Now speaking of the bed, or chair, or whatever, when reaching across like this, I know you are aware that the stand can rotate on an axis as well, I'm not talking about landscape portrait, I'm talking about the only other adjustment which you can see in the pictures, it has a hand tightener type adjustment... Well, this is also limited to 90 degrees, (more like 85 actually, but you would expect 180). What does this mean? Well this means that as I explained earlier, the "bottom" clip will always be the bottom when in landscape mode if the stand is on the LEFT side of your bed or chair. If you want the more secure two clips at the bottom, due to the 90 degree limitations on both joints, the stand has to be on the RIGHT side of your bed or chair.I'm sorry this is so hard to explain, but the fact is that there is a 90 degree limitation on rotation, and 90 (more like 85, because it doesn't sit parallel to the microphone bar) degrees on the other part of the joint. If you are using the other joint to adjust horizontally, there is no option to rotate the stand vertically (vertical angles, being lower or higher viewing angle to the ipad), and if you opt to use it vertically (then you can't angle it horizontally) then the mic stand (extending bar) would be pointing at you like a stick... :)If I adjust my height for example in bed or in a chair, then because I'm not using the stand pointing at me like a stick, I have to reach over to the other end of the mic stand and fiddle with with adjusting the rotation of the horizontal microphone bar. The screw is small and tight because if it isn't the weight of the ipad will cause the stand to rotate downward. Basically, you can't do this from your bed or your chair, you will have to get up and tighten it tightly and hold the bar securely with the other hand.Ok, so yes it does the trick, but if you are aware of all these issues, it is an okay stand. I don't think it was worth price paid because the quality seems lacking, not much better than a generic stand with the hard surfaces with plastic sticking out of the mold and a logo that was slapped on way off the designated center mold. Also the packaging isn't that great, colorful yes, but not wrapped in any plastic, just cardboard, not new feeling. Very oily, cardboard, machine feeling. Also the tightener/washer that comes with it was still greasy (and oddly enough, sticky).. nothing I would want next to my new iPad. But yes you assemble it and leave it and don't touch it hopefully. So basically, yes, it is a nice stand, but the quality, greasy parts, the apparent sharp plastic mold still showing its roughness, limited adjustability, and the logo slapped on way off center, just brings this stand down from what could be a premium stand to an average one with premium pricing. It's okay for what it does, and I will be keeping it, because I don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back and looking for other options. This was my first Konig & Meyer (K&M) product, and I won't jump at the option to purchase another K&M product due to this, if there are no other options out there I would, but the build quality of this one just won't make me jump at the option to buy another K&M product.I figured the premium price would mean I would get a slightly superior product, seems like "you get what you pay for" doesn't always work both ways. Maybe we are paying for shipping from Germany? Hahaha... just kidding, I use lots of German products, Native Instruments, Access Virus, Steinberg, Ableton, even their automobiles, but this one just doesn't live up to what I hoped for. If they are going to charge this much, they should ensure quality. If this cost $30, then I wouldn't complain. But it doesn't.Bottom line is, its a decent stand with a slight lack of adjustment (forgivable), just expect low build quality (not so forgivable at this price).

Trusted brand not quite
I owned a K&M holder for an iPad Air and it for like a glove, this one not so much. This model is not as tight around my new larger format iPad. There is potential for the device to slip out of the holder. Not good.

Perfect iPad Holder for Manhasset Music Stand Base
This is a fantastic iPad holder -- definately the best available -- and if you already have a Manhasset Voyager music stand it can replace that stand's sheet music desk with the addition of just two washers. A few comments about the holder: The German engineering and build quality is outstanding. The iPad cannot slip out when in any orientation (unlike some of the Clip-type holders). It fits my iPad "3" perfectly and no doubt will also fit the iPad 2. The iPad can be easily rotated from portrait to landscape without tools and each position is detented. I'm totally pleased with this product. The rest of the review is for the few readers who don't need a tall music stand and want to mount an iPad holder on a standard Manhasset sheet music stand that they may already own. Here is mine: Manhasset 52-MH Voyager Music Stand This mod lets you use the K & M iPad holder to mount your iPad on a classic portable music stand base instead of a mic stand. All you have to do is remove the part of the Manhasset stand that attaches the sheet music desk to the stand's vertical shaft and use that part (plus two 1.5 inch "fender" washers you can buy at any hardware store) in place of the mic stand adapter that comes attached to the K & M iPad holder. No other mods are required and the holder can easily be put back into original condition for mic stand mounting.Start by completely unscrewing the locking knob on the K & M's holder and removing the bolt. Slip the entire mic stand adapter from the ears of the iPad holder body. When you remove the K & M's mic stand adapter you will find two friction washers that help keep the holder at the correct tilt angle; retain one of these friction washers for use with the Manhasset adapter. Store the rest of the holder's mic stand adapter along with one of the friction washers so you can easily convert it back for mic stand mounting if you ever need to put the iPad holder back into stock configuration.Remove the Manhasset's stand adapter in the same way. You will transfer the adapter from the Manhasset's sheet music desk to the K & M holder, replacing the holder's mic stand adapter.Obtain two 1.5" diameter fender washers from any hardware store. Sandwich the Manhasset adapter between these two washers and add the soft friction washer to one side of the stack. Slide the stack between the ears of the K & M holder and replace the original K & M bolt, inserting it first through the ear with the square hole then through the stack and the other ear. Screw on the locking knob and tighten, making sure the bolt seats in the square hole properly. Slip the assembly onto your Manhasset base, tight the adapter's clutch and enjoy...
