Study Guide for 1Z0-071: Oracle Database 12c SQL: Oracle Certification Prep Paperback – May 23, 2016

I passed the 1Z0-071 exam today due in no small part to this book! It thoroughly covers each objective of the exam in a precisely worded, easy to understand manner.Since this was my first Oracle cert, I was quite worried about the test. I read several reviews where people said that certain commonly used books and practice tests didn't touch the difficulty of the actual test. So I want to share that I used Matthew's book first and foremost (the only guide currently published for 1Z0-071 to my knowledge), the videos/practice test for 1Z0-061 available on Matthew's website, supplemented with Steve O'Hearn's book/practice test for 1Z0-047, and the practice test/flash cards from Self Test Software. This was more than sufficient to prepare for the test. I passed with a 79% (63% required to pass) on my first attempt.I can't recommend this book enough - it was my #1 resource for preparation.

This is a great resource to use when studying for the Oracle 1Z0-071 exam.However, it summarizes the topics covered on the exam at the expense of fundamental information and doesn't cover all of the material you'll encounter when you take the exam.It's a good tool to use for reference, but further research and other study materials are required even if you have a solid understanding of the material before you get this guide.Additionally, the book advertises that the oraclecertificationprep.com site has a practice test for 1Z0-071 -- and it does not, which was super frustrating.I recommend using this book in conjunction with OCA Oracle Database SQL Exam Guide http://a.co/7q0HNhH and if you are able, purchasing the Transcender Practice Exam.

It summarizes most of the topics, but it is not sure how much will that be helpful for the actual exam.Good job for summarizing and pointing out the extra resources for complete understanding of the topics.

Works pretty well as a mousepad. It's well written, just about 1 inch deep. I've taken the exam and this is nowhere near deep enough to prepare you for it. The exam requires you to know why every single answer option is right or wrong and this just doesn't cover the material in enough detail. Will give you a false sense of security if you're not careful.

Very concise. I used this and the Oracle Exam Guide from Oracle Press and passed on the first attempt.

You really have to know your (Oracle DB) stuff to pass this exam, rather than just SQL, which is unfortunate. A great number of minutia-focused questions specific to oracle db. The same cannot be said of the Java exams, whereby having a strong programming ability can carry one through the test albeit with a passing score on the lower end of the qualifying spectrum. This book is simply not enough, and the O'Hearn one is insulting to the reader giving multiple practice questions at the end of the first chapter, I kid you not, along the lines of "Is this the best resource for 071? A) Yes B) Definitely and etc.I read reviews including one from an actuary stating that the SQL server exams are extremely difficult, both 461 and 761, but reddit seems to agree that those at least test problem solving ability more than being familiar with a bunch of random nonsense.

Great book - does a great job of covering the principles that will be on the test. I'd be a good judge of that, just passed it!

Over half of the content in the current exam isn't even touched on in this book. While it's possible that it may have been a good tool in the past, now it's nothing but a waste of money and a false sense of preparedness ... Thanx for setting me up for failure!
