The Animator's Workbook: Step-by-Step Techniques of Drawn Animation
G**W
An incredible work of instruction by a master of animation makes you WANT to create.
My current copy came from "Midnite Shift" an independent vendor here on Amazon. It's a hardcover, advertised in 'Used - like new' condition, and it wasn't that, exactly, but it was certainly in great shape, given its age.I first stumbled upon this book in Jr. High. I must've checked it out of the library 300 times if it was once. I was recently discussing walk cycles with a student and asked if she'd ever seen this book and realized that I hadn't seen my copy for some time. Once I found this first edition hardcover for under twenty bucks, I had to have it. This is the exact printing that made me want to animate when I checked it out those many years ago.Even after 35 years and a digital revolution, this book remains one of the best works on the subject of animation. The descriptions and instructions it contains are succinct and specific. There's a trend among modern educators to give fuzzy instructions. Tony is exacting in his specificity. "If you want X outcome, do exactly Y". In some examples, he gives frame-accurate instructions.I can't say enough about this work. It's as relevant now as it was when I first read it in the 80's.There's no question that Tony White is a master of his craft.

Perfect for New Animators
Since I wrote my first review for this book back in college... I left it rather vague. Time to be clear about what this book is about.I did have the pleasure of having Tony as my professor. His down to earth teaching style kept the classroom moving and motivated. In this book Tony covers all the aspects and equipment you need to get started with 2D animation. For those of you with interest, this book covers bipeds and quadrupeds. If you are getting into 2D or 3D, this is one reference book I would always have handy on the shelf. If you are a serious animator look for Tony's Bible.I call it the bible since it is over 500 pages (there is a reference book and a half).Animation from Pencils to Pixels: Classical Techniques for the Digital Animator

The standard and the bible for animators
I am a college student in video game design (and a 3D modeler). Every animation class with have this book as a recommended read if not the required textbook. There is a reason! The concepts work on old cel animation as well as with digital animation packages (3dsmax, maya, blender). Acting and expression are deeply explored as well to give your animations life.

Happy
I've been happy with this book! It breaks down animation techniques in an understandable way, and I like following along with the exercises. Although I've studied some animation before, it covers some things that I've never thought about before, like how our heads turn on arcs and such.

Old, but good
Like the title says. Don't expect fancy 3d stuff, this is old school. But good. You will get the essentials.

Animation Drawings
Drawings were not very good. This book shows motion, but the drawings could have been done better. My son is in the animation guild and has draw from cartoons and video games.

sehr hilfreich.....
