Great Light
This is an excellent light that works just as described. We bought one, and then another, for night hikes. The red light doesn't cause any blindness and can be adjusted both in pattern and light intensity. Very pleased.

Great option for astronomy, especially compared to a lot of other red flashlights.
This is a great flashlight for astronomy, minus the fact that even on its dimmest setting its still pretty bright. I love the fact that its either on or off, there are no different settings and features (red, blue, green, flashing, etc) that you need to cycle through before you get to the red light. Its easy to use, and easy to adjust, and retains your setting when turning off and on. Its more expensive than some other red flashlights, but its worth the extra money. Construction is solid, and seems like it will last a while. Light output is even, no big hotspots like there would be with a reflective cone. All in all I think this is a great option for astronomy and will be purchasing more of them in the future.

Good value even for astronomy
This works quite well as a hobby astronomy aid. At lowest brightness and widest beam, I can easily read maps and eyepiece inscriptions, and it does not significantly impair my dark adaptation or annoy my fellow hobbyists. Especially useful is that it is smoothly adjustable to different brightness levels even without turning it on.I do wish it could be dimmed even further, like products made specifically for astronomy, but despite this it works well enough, is general purpose, is solidly built, and is an excellent value.

Great red light flashlight w/ possible flaw
One of the first red-light only flashlights with fully variable brightness. Being a stargazer since I was a kid, I ordered this as soon as I saw it.Pros:* Red-light only - no cycling through all white-light modes to get a red light!* Continuously variable brightness - not just one or two light levels.* The light field is very even throughout most of the zoom range.* Maintains same light level when switched off and on.* Excellent build - equal to higher priced aluminum-body flashlights.Cons:* At it's dimmest, it's still pretty bright for dark-adjusted eyes. Bright red light can still affect your night vision.

Awesome combination of features!
I was just getting started with astronomy, and one of the accessories suggested was a red light flashlight to help preserve your night vision. The problem I ran into was pretty much all of them were some variation of light that had multiple functions that required multiple presses or a long press to turn it on or off. What a nuisance? Has anyone EVER used the strobe on a flashlight?! Why require people to step through that constantly? Then I came across this and realized it was very different. It focuses on features that are genuinely useful and work extremely well. At the back there is a dial that you press to power on, then press again to turn it immediately off (what a concept!). You can turn the dial to smoothly adjust the brightness from very low to respectable bright. At the front is a basic push/pull focus design. What that means is that I can immediately flick it on and off as necessary, keep it low when I don't want a ton of light bothering people, but still get enough light to see what I'm doing.Seriously, this has everything I wanted and none of the pointless nuisance "features" I didn't. It's a great blend of quality, usability, and functionality. I wish more products were like this.

Great for lighting while nest-busting wasps.
Wow, I didn't think I would find such a flashlight with light invisible to insects. I regularly need to bust hornet nests in the spring/summer, and the best way is to do it at night when they won't fly, but other flashlights give them sight. This one not only gives me that, but is adjustable in both beam cone and brightness. Very deep pure red!

Not dim enough
The light itself is working well and seems to be well made. It is dimmable but not to the point at which I could use it to read star charts and observe faint distant galaxies (faint fuzzies).

Excellent light for stargazing
I'm a lifelong amateur astronomer, and purchased this red adjustable flashlight to replace an old, trusty yet failing red LED flashlight I've used for years while stargazing with my telescopes. This new flashlight has a great range of brightness. At it's lowest setting it's perfect for reading charts and making notes at the scope without affecting my night vision. It's not enough for a flashlight to be red, even red light can cause issues if it's too bright, and this dims down low enough to still be usable for reading charts, and making notes. The bonus is, unlike my previous red flashlight, it gets bright enough to use when packing up, and checking the ground to be sure I haven't dropped anything without needing to use a white light, which can make my fellow stargazers grumpy. I'm using it with a 18650 rechargable lithium battery, and it's nice that I can use it with AAA batteries as a backup. Time will tell how this flashlight holds up, but for now, it's a great flashlight that's perfect for my needs.
