In this book you have the classic poor mixed race young man who grew up with the rich girl they grew up good friends but as they got older the social lines became to much especially for our young protagonist . Throw in a summer camp and archeologist dig young people with abilities falling angels secret societies and a prophecy and you got a whole lot going on . Despite all that I still found myself liking these characters and caring about their welfare the plot is a little unclear to me but I'm willing to stick around to the end . Looking forward to the next book in this series . ### ⭐⭐ Hoping it gets better... *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2015* I confess, I haven't made it very far in this book, and I am honestly not sure if I want to continue reading it or not.I feel like there could be potential for this to be a good book (which is why I'm leaving a review), but getting there is rather tortuous. It's almost like reading a draft. The story doesn't flow. I mean it kind of makes sense from a narrative point of view, but I'm not sure if it's the odd dialogue or the excessive visual details or what, but after Leah, the characters are awkward for me. Nathan is supposed to be the hero, but he just kind of comes off as a bit of a brat thus far. There is a disconnect between what is happening and his reactions to it. I mean if I were having nightmares about a girl and find out they were real, I'd be freaked. But you don't get that in the story. I mean, Nathan is a poor orphan who lives with his loving grandfather who is a caretaker for a rich family. There are a lot of things that the author could have done to make him more relatable, but it just gets lost in the background. For me, a good book makes you feel like you are inside the characters- I go through what they go through- I feel their pain and the details are just that- details. I'm not sure if the author was trying to do too many perspectives at once, or what, but I want to feel what Nathan is feeling, not just be aware of it.With a good book, getting to the end is effortless- like flying. For me, getting to the end of this one is more like plodding. And just to be clear- flying is way more fun. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Anticipation Is Making Me Wait in Vain *by C***A on Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2018* I liked the premise for the book. Bad things happening to innocent people, boy finds he has powers, finds out others around him have powers, bad people looking for something to do something terrible, heroes in the making, secrets. What I disliked was the plodding tiresome dialogue to get even a tidbit of information. I found myself reading the summary more than once to see if I'd selected the right ebook, to make sure it was a YA fantasy. It took so darn long to get to any interesting information - it was doled out sporactically. The book was confusing at times, mixing up characters' names. Distances were confusing, at one point you have to drive to get to another character's house, but in another instance, they just walked to the house, huh? It was so jumbled I can't even review it. I stayed to the end because there was this glimmer of a good story buried under all that verbage and I kept hoping it would appear before the end of the book. It did somewhat but it didn't come together the way I thought it should have.
