Introduction To Industrial And Systems Engineering

Helped me pass the PE!
Great introductory text for a non-IE. Very broad, covers most of the range of the IE topic. I used it as a study aid when studying for the PE exam; I passed, and I credit much of that to this book. Good: Covers lots of stuff that was on the exam, including:-Industrial processes (metal cutting, Taylor tool life eqn)-Facility layout-Facility location (traveling salesman, milk run algorithms)-Operations planning (forecasting demand, EOQ, exponential forecasting)-Project management (PERT, crashing, forward/backward pass)-Good introduction to stats and probs in the appendixNot-so-good:-Lots of wasted space on management theory (get a business text instead)-Computer stuff is out-of-date It does not go into substantial detail, so it is (as titled) an introductory text. Still, I highly recommend it to the non-IE.

For begineers only!
This book is just an introduction; it only explains the very basic concepts of IE, it's nothing new to professionals. It's only good if you have never heard about IE before.

Gluing wasn't done right
Got this book for a class. Not only did it take three weeks to ship, the gluing on the spine is all messed up. Unfortunately I need the book to study so I can't afford to go through the return process but this ($200!) purchase left a poor taste in my mouth.
