As a long-time fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise, I was excited to see the latest cinematic adaptation on 4K UHD. And I have to say, I was not disappointed. From the opening scene to the climactic showdown, Mortal Kombat (2021) delivers the over-the-top, bone-crunching action that fans have come to love. The visual effects are stunning, with each character's unique abilities coming to life in vivid detail on the screen. But what really sets this movie apart is the attention to detail given to the characters and their backstories. Each fighter is given a fleshed-out history, motivations, and personality that adds depth to the overall story. And the performances are top-notch, with standout turns from Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Mehcad Brooks as Jax.The 4K UHD transfer is superb, with crisp, clear visuals and vibrant colors that pop off the screen. And the Dolby Atmos sound mix immerses you in the action, with bone-shattering punches and kicks that feel like they're happening right in your living room.Overall, Mortal Kombat (2021) is a worthy addition to the franchise and a must-see for fans of action movies, martial arts, and video games. So, grab your popcorn, get comfortable, and get ready to yell "Finish Him!" at the top of your lungs.

It's ok.
The movie wasn't too bad. But I'm pretty upset that Goro looked like a Hulk ripoff.

Another example of a video game adaptation done correctly.
In the last few years, it feels like Hollywood has finally come to grips with adapting video games into movies. There has been such a sour taste from the initial wave of video game-inspired movies from the mid-90s that it’s taken 25 years to finally delve into this genre again. As these movie franchises are being rebooted, it’s nice to see that the writers and directors (mostly) understand the appeal of the source material and can translate it to the big screen. It also helps that CGI technology has advanced to the point where the special effects in these films aren’t nearly as campy. While the original movie version of Mortal Kombat (1995) was OK, there were definitely a few odd choices in its production (inducing casting and some script issues). For the reboot, I felt Mortal Kombat (2021) nailed the aesthetic and the characters with just enough plot to make the reason for these brutal fights plausible. There were just enough classic characters to draw in the nostalgia factor while also providing lesser-known newer characters from the series that added a “cool factor” that makes me want to try some of the more recent installments of the video game franchise. Of course, there has likely been over 20 years of lore to draw from to help make a violent fighting game into something that makes sense. Those of us who grew up in the era of this video game can appreciate that the movie’s staples are intact, even if they are references that heavily wink at the audience. Catchphrases and extremely brutal fatalities were sprinkled throughout and somewhat distracted from the overall flow, even if they were necessary to tie to the original games. In the end, though, Mortal Kombat was a fun ride and an entertaining bit of nostalgia that was improved by “better graphics” of today’s CGI.Another example of a video game adaptation done correctly, I give Mortal Kombat 4.5 stars out of 5.

Beware Amazon
Product came rewrapped. Movie was shrink wrapped and portions of the original wrap were still present. Then they sell it to you "New". Disk look to be unused and the digital code worked. As for the movie, I enjoy it. It follows the canon pretty well and sets up the future sequels.4 stars for the movie, losses a star for Amazon sending a rewrapped copy.

It's difficult to turn a 20-minute game into a movie, but they pulled it off well
This movie is very well done. The fighting is absolutely amazing. As far as technique and martial arts skill, the movie is better than the game. (Not a criticism of the game.) The character costumes are much better than the original movies. I really liked some of the twists the plot takes with Scorpion, which are true to the more recent installments in the MK universe from Ed Boon. The movie has received criticism on social media. It is true that no movie is without sin (to quote CinemaSins). However, I am of the opinion that much of it is unfair at best, and untrue at worst. The strength of the MK games is the fighting. The game only provides enough storyline to give character backgrounds and why they are fighting. This isn't Mass Effect, the Matrix, or Lord of the Rings where the storylines are more integral to their respective universes. Additionally, the original MK games, and the ladder play on the recent ones, can be beat in 20 minutes. With all that said, stretching the game into a full feature movie, while staying true to the essence of the game, is not going to be easy. Either you have to sacrific fighting for storyline (which will probably require leaving the MK universe to an unacceptable degree), or you have to stay true to the minimum-lore tournament that focuses on the fighting. I feel the movie did more of the latter, which would be my preference. Again, it is a fighting game and not Harry Potter or Star Wars. Not only did the movie stay true to the fighting, but it brought in world-renowned martial artists and a real MMA fighter. It makes the fight scenes so much better. It is a great movie, imho. I hope we get one or two sequels from it. And I hope others who think they might have some interest in it give it a chance.

Entretenida

This version of the mortal kombat is 100 times better than the original movies in the 90s. It’s brutal, it’s bloody, it’s violent and no holds bar action! The 90s ones were campy and goofy. This one is a lot serious and dark! I enjoyed every minute of it!
