Disney's Paul Bunyan [VHS]

It was nice of seller to upgrade to first class mail at her cost.My autistic son will be very happy to have the vhs tape for Christmas present.

My grandson and I went to Brainerd, MN recently and I was looking forward to showing him the large Paul Bunyan and Babe statues. I tried to tell him the story but really couldn't remember it very well. Unfortunately the theme park was closed so we didn't get to see the statues. When we got back from our trip I found this video and ordered it for my grandson. He just loves it and wants to watch it over and over. The video also inculdes a short story about Hiawatha that is real cute.

I purchased this vider because I had seen it on TV in the past and enjoy a good, old fashioned video that does not include sex, nudity or any other offensive material.

As a child, I was very moved by the story of Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox Babe. They took on the steam locomotive and the steam saw in a competition. . . and lost. The message seemed to be that Paul was a great man, but that technology was better.It's been 50 years since Disney made the short, but I think anyone watching the movie today would have to take into consideration the overhead of technology -- namely that if Paul had kept swinging his axe, and if Babe had kept hauling all of those felled trees, they'd probably be far ahead of the little man with the steam tools.Thanks to the knowledge we've gained from the computer industry, we now know that the little man competing against Paul Bunyan would have had to stop every month to patch his steam locomotives and saws with the latest fixes from MacroHard (or whatever the dominant steam company of the day was). He'd have to constantly train and retrain himself to keep abreast of all of the new releases of the lumberjacking tools. He'd have to spend untold sums of money and time to get certified in SEI-CMM and ISO9000 and ITIL to appease all of the "process people" who'd insist on micro measuring every little thing he did. And, of course, the little man would eventually have to rely on the offshoring of the manufacturing and support of his steam tools. In the end, the little man would have to resign himself to shoddy support from people he couldn't understand.In 1958 we thought that technology was the solution to all our problems. I now think that big ol' Paul, with his big ol' Axe and his big ol' Ox, were all we needed.If you haven't seen this "short" in a while, watch it again and see if you don't agree that technology isn't all it's cracked up to be. Paul Bunyan was one incredible force of nature that we haven't come close to matching.
