It takes a little bit of practice, like a yo-yo. Don't give up!
Okay. At first I thought it was broken. I couldn't get it going for more than 20 seconds and lights were weak or nonexistent. After about a day of trying it off and on, I finally got the hang of it. It takes a little bit of practice, like a yo-yo. First, wind it up by turning in the direction of the arrows until you can't turn it anymore. Holding it in the palm of your hand, leash around wrist, turn your wrist in a circular motion and feel for the resistance. Stick with it - the resistance. That tells you you're doing it right - and the lights will light up stronger and more colors. Don't expect it to do the work for you. If you lose the resistance you'll soon lose the spin and have to start all over again. Now I can do up to 2.5 minutes with my right hand (before I get tired) and over a minute with my left. I got this to strengthen my wrist and forearm to help counteract the elbow pain I was getting from playing guitar. Sometimes, when winding it up in the direction of the arrows, there doesn't seem to be any resistance, and you might think it's broken. Just spin it a few times in the opposite direction. Then try it again the regular way. This always works for me.

Effective and fun
Phenomenal and unique exercisor for wrist, hand, forearm. I use it several times a week. Easy to use and very effective. Strengthens grip and hand strength, and arm and shoulder too if you know how to use it. Still working great after 10 months. Been using this now for over a year. Great for wrist, forearm, even shoulder exercise. It won't last forever, but if it ever stops working I will replace it immediately! Just a few minutes every other day adds noticeable improvement in grip and forearm strength.

You need two strong, working thumbs to use.
People seem to love these, but unless you have strong, thumbs don’t bother buying them. You need two strong thumbs to wind it up so you can use it. I have tried every trick in the book to wind it some other way, but it doesn’t work. I’ve given it away to a neighbor who is much younger and stronger than I am. It did nothing for me, but frustrate me.

Weird
Edit- 11/5/23: I was contacted by the vendor and offered a refund, no questions asked, on the unit that was likely defective. I appreciate the customer concern, prompt contact and resolution. I wouldn’t hesitate to do business with them again. Original: I had one of these years ago, and it was good for training wrist strength in martial arts I was doing at the time. This one is just weirdly hard to start and keep going, not at all like the originals.

Great exercise - go easy
GREAT! Had one 20 years ago. Great exercise for hand, wrist & forearm. Warning, start out slow. One minute each arm, two or three times daily. Don't overdo it. The slightest motion will make it go faster

This certainly has not worked for me. I tried many times according to the instructions too.
I have done it just like in the instructions and the videos many times and I cannot get it to revolve. I am winding it in the direction of the arrows until I cannot, then carefully placing it in my hand before release and I believe I am revolving it in the right direction vis-a-vis the circular arrows on the bottom for rotation. With eight years of university credit I am not dense, but maybe it's just me. I bought it to restore strength to my hands and I was looking forward to it very much. I will keep trying but I do not expect much improvement. I have general neuropathy as a result of some arrogant jerk of an anesthetist paralyzing both hands giving me ten drugs for a simple lapiroscopic gall bladder removal surgery in 2012. I had some 360 trigger point injections or more to restore function from 2012-2018 and I got back movement but not a lot of strength. So I was hoping it would work but it has not.

Wish they made a lightless model but otherwise great
Love this little guy and the fact that it doesn't need a stupid wire to start like earlier models. The cost was the best out there so no regrets there. I could honestly do without the flashing lights but whatever. The noise is there but it is the same in all of these gyroballs so nothing out of the ordinary. Has a rubber band on it to help with the grip and once you wind it up it can definitely give you a workout for some strength. Like I said, love the little guy

Works great
So, I just received this in the mail, this afternoon. I opened it right up and decided to try it out and I was not disappointed at all! Very simple to use. I “wound it up” by using my thumbs and pushing the arrows forward, that are in the center of the ball, once I could no longer push the hours forward I held the ball in my hand and started to rotate my wrist. I could rotate it in several different directions and the faster I rotated my wrist the faster the ball went, which made it harder to hold on really worked muscles in my forearm. I did this on both hands and my forearms were burning even after 30 seconds. So I am very satisfied and this will be a great addition to strengthening my and my forearm for my job and my workouts.
