Tuff Juice: My Journey from the Streets to the NBA

I am an avid reader, but there are not many books where I have finished in one day. I picked the book up on a Saturday morning and didn't put it down until I had read the last page that same Saturday evening. This book was awesome from beginning to end. I know Caron and his family personally, so I was drawn in from page one anxious to know and learn more about him, the city we are from, and the friends and family we share. His story is a true testimony of how far faith in GOD, a supportive family, and hard work can take you! I hope that any young person who is lost or has lost hope uses Caron's story to see the light. If you haven't gotten a copy yet GET yours today you won't regret it. I have since bought additional copies for other family members.

This book was a selection of my bookclub. It particularly interested me, as during the time that this book takes place, I was teaching high school aged youth in Racine, (the location in the book). The book is well written and a realistic representation of events.. The revealing of the layers of the main character as well as seeing him evolve is central to why this reader was captivated by the book. It was also fun to know exactly where events took place when specific streets and locations were mentioned. It is a fast and enjoyable read! What a pleasure to know that someone can overcome negative influences and triumph over them!

Pretty good book. Caron talks about the many obstacles he had to overcome to make it out of the hood. Then goes on to discuss his path from college to the NBA. Interesting and well written. 4 stars.

We have been UConn fans forever (it seems ) and we loved watching Caron Butler when he played for the team. I have to say I was so blown away by his story that I immediatly ordered more copies and gave them out to friends kids in both middle and high school to read. We are all aware of some of the backgrounds of basketball players (Allen Ivetson comes to mind) but I have never before read or heard a story so raw and expressive on what some of these players go through and what they overcome just to make it into college, much less into the pros. An amazing-can't - put- down book that should be in every middle school reading list and library. Thank you, Caron Butler!!

It was a gift, I was told it was a good read

I loved this book from beginning to end. Never new his story until I read this book and I glad I did. Surprised by how did in went through at an early age, glad he was able to over come make his way out.

I saw my first Uconn game in 1954 and have followed the Mens and,Women's teams ever since. However I worked in Switzerland during Caron's time in Ct and never learned very much about him. This book is well written and touched me very deeply. I am from a small and mostly white town in Ct, Portland, and have never experienced anything described in this book; but I was able to taste it from the words. Congratulations to a great man and I hope many others share this experience

This is an amazing book with a really great story in it. The success of Caron Butler is great to hear about from beginning to end. It is a book that proves dreams can come true and it helps me in the classroom where I sometimes struggle finding ways to motivate students. I feel giving some students insight to this mans journey could help them think and feel different once they see someone just like they are found a way to be better overall. I enjoyed it.

This is a great story.The basketball career I felt could have been expanded into 4 books.From Miami to Sacramento......the NBA career needs another 4 books.An amazing story getting to college and NBA.
